  • I have used Play.com since 2000. I have not had a problem with them even in their pray.com days. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

I never ordered COD but I have always received pre-order items on time or before release.

I have had to deal with their CS and have a hand full of times through phone, as I stated above, using an 020 number without problems. Like I said, it's a shame you've had problems with them, but so many other people haven't. It happens sometimes in large companies.

You probably haven't read the stories about the pre-orders for COD. The same happened to them this week for another game. A lot of bad publicity with play.com just this month, and they probably don't even care.

    1) email glitch: "Many customers have received e-mails from Play.com reporting the despatch of an order they did not place, with someone else's details"

    2) CoD pre-orders: "Play.com leaves Modern Warfare 2 buyers empty handed"

    3) Assassin's Creed: "Play.com’s customer service hits new low, screws up its own exclusive"

They are just destoying the good reputation they took years to make in the first place.

I don't know if you have tried to call them recently, but please have a go, and lets see if you come back to us with the same opinion! However, I would be quick if I were you, because whoever bought the company recently is clearly trying to crash it.

Over the years I've ordered probably 20 different things from Play. The longest anything's taken has been 6 days and the shortest 36 hours.

    Perhaps I've just been lucky.

Wow, you really want everyone who hasn't had a bad experience with them to turn against them, don't you? Yes, I have called them recently, less than a couple of weeks ago actually. Like I said, this is a real shame, but fortunately I cannot complain as they have always been good to me. I've often had items placed at 4pm one day delivered by 9am the next day and that to me is great! They may have screwed up some game orders but they aren't the only ones, trust me. I ordered an HMV exclusive in a slipcase which they cancelled in my account twice before then advertising on their site that it was now unavailable from suppliers. I placed the order again when it showed as available again and waited until a week after release when I had to call them to which they responded with "Sorry, the item you are requesting now won't be released, we did display this on the site..." so I admitted defeat and let them cancel the order. 4 days later my order turned up. Go figure. Needless to say, I don't shop with HMV anymore. Talk about runaround.

And? What was the experience like?

I don't think the issue here is delivery time, or not receiving the items at all. Play don't deliver the fastest, but since delivery is free, it is acceptable to wait a few days.

I must have ordered at least 30 or 40 times from them, and NEVER received an order the next day, since they despatch from Jersey. Average time is usually 3-5 days. Interesting to see you are getting yours so quickly... Are you sure your order was not with a trade partner?

I'm amazed anyone can get items overnight from play. I've had books in 48 hours however, most items are 4-6 days.
  • Well I ordered a mobile phone from them that turned out to be faulty.

I got a returns code from them no problem and my refund was processed without a delay together with postage.

However as I had sent it by registered post I was out of pocket by £4 - rang them up and they refunded the £4 without wanting to see proof that I had sent it by registered postage.

Since I had to return a heavy Wii bundle to them, I had to use an insured courier, and I am £14 out of pocket. I don't have proof either of what was received, since their delivery note was not detailled, so they may decide not to refund.

As I stated in one of my FIRST posts above, my CS experiences have always been fine, which is why I recommended the 020 number I used.
  • I've never had any problems with Play and probably 95% of my internet shopping is with them. I did get Modern Warfare 2 on the release date and the one time I had to contact their customer service dept (admittedly going back a few years) I had a replacement sent to me very quickly.

    I love Play.
