I have the black version of the freecom drive its ok, its pretty quiet.
I just found out that it is a western digital Caviar drive inside and the details on that drive are as follows wth 2mb cache 7200rpm, seek time 8.9ms, noise emision 36dB ATA100. The box doesnt tell me anything same as the books inside the box.

Price should have been £115 when I bought it but Tesco charged me £125 o I got it free :D
Buy it online at pcw and it is only £90.84

You can buy direct from freecom and they have a discount code box on their site for £99.99 but i dont know the cost of shipping as you need to register to go that far in to the transaction.

well seeing as everyone is going on aboutliking diferent drives I thought I would put my comments
WD drives are great, I have 5 of them in my server all 250GB but with 8MB of cache and are on 24/7 and have been for over 2 maybe 3 years some of them maybe even longer I just keep adding drives.
Seagate have always been ok too I havnt heard of any problems concerning their drives, Toshiba I dont know my laptop drive is a toshiba its been in use for over 2 years no and it seems fine.

I recently bought a 250gb HD from a local computer shop for £100, it isn't branded because it's a standard "internal" HDD in an external case. The actual HD is a Western Digital.

PCworld have some good deals at the minute they also have the Toshiba 320Gb PX1223EE-1G32 £109.99 (based on collect at store)

I have a general dislike of Western Digital drives (they have always been flakey for me) but have yet to have a problem with a Toshiba drive (I currently have 4). My 80Gb Freecom drive contains a Toshiba disk and has been fine.

I've got the Toshiba 320GB one that Ivan recommended above. I got it for £99.99. Its a nice small, quiet machine (quiet because there is no fan). Am happy with it.

Seagates are just about the only drives that have never let me down (so far!). As someone has already mentioned Maplin currently have:

    160GB - £69.99
    250GB - £99.99

    Like pin,
I bought a Toshiba external hard-drive this week, wednesday I think it was, from PC World in Staples Corner, London.
They had a Philips brand on special offer at £79.99 for 160GB which I really wanted to get but went on price when I saw Toshiba, whom I doubted I'd go wrong with - £69.99.

Beware of Freecom, they do not include a USB cable sellable at pc world for a minimum of a tenner.

One touch back-up with Philips was what wanted me to buy theirs but I thought all hardware contains some software included in the packaging.

    Yet to set mine up.

Anybody suggest I change my mind before I remove my security tagging?

:oIf I fail to thank you individually, I am sorry. Your advice was appreciated but may not have been 100% the result I was after.
