Links in signatures.

I recently got hauled up on here for having a link in my signature. I have had posts deleted and branded as a spammer (which I am not). I just wondered if links in signatures are so bad why is the function not disabled. I run and moderate several forums and if I don't want links in sigs I just disable them. If I am not fussed about them I allow them simple. (see the image below for what I am talking about).

Your signature comes across as a advert which no doubt will be removed0

OK but that was not my original point, my point is that if links in signatures are forbidden why does the board settings allow them? In the admin control panel there is a radio button to allow / disallow links in signatures that takes seconds to click.
My original signature that I got flack for had a link to my website, that was frowned upon so I removed it and simply changed it to the text of my company name. That is obviously frowned upon too so I have removed it all together.0 -
I see delambo's view point. The function should be disabled if people are not allowed to use. This would save monitoring time etc. No doubt, it is time consuming to keep checking and deleting posts. Easier to disable this option or perhaps make it a fee paying privilege i.e. those who want to put links on their signature have to pay a fee0

I suspect because if its banned both admin, board guides and official charity link would also not be allowed in which they allow at prsentOK but that was not my original point, my point is that if links in signatures are forbidden why does the board settings allow them? Thanks for editing we get a lot of spammers so hence people do get jumped on. I appreciate you at least did edit it0 -
Links are ALLOWED if you have permission0

official charity link would also not be allowed in which they allow at prsent
Not being funny but why would you allow charity links and not consider them spam? I am a huge supporter of the Firefighters Charity (being a retained firefighter myself) and of the Surrey Air Ambulance and try to raise around £5000 per year between the charities but it sickens me to know that the CEO of the firefighters charity earns more than the Chief fire officer of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. The CEO of the Surrey Air Ambulance earns more money in 6 months than I have earned from my business in the entire 5 years I have been trading!!!
These charities are not alone in this. Charities are BIG BUSINESS and can make people very rich.0 -
I am just stating what mse does, its not my view
Perhaps you should take it up with them rarely do you get a reply from them though, I assume they are too busy

SIGNATURE LINKS
The only links permitted in signatures are those of the MSE team, the Forum team, Board Guides and links to charity (ie they are on the Charities Commission Register of Charities). This includes un-activated links. If in doubt, contact abuse@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
yes, rules would suffice
I'm so glad that the site restricts charity links as well, if they allow it to be a trend, then it would be facist in no time. It has to be really reliable and those who wish to donate fully aware of how their donation would be used. We had a sticky here on a board where some of us with in good faith donated only to learn later that it was used for holidaying and worse still that part of it pinched by a member. The member later went on to bully for questioning and the cliquie factions still bully given the opportunity. What a spectacular failure in judgement it was, well for me anyway. This site can help never letting such incidents happen, by not giving into emotions and hysterics of anyone. Really, links of commercial and charity should be scrutinised or it would bring the site to disrepute.0
