  • Do you mean the other parties insurance? They have already informed me that as i'm using an accident management company they cannot deal with me at all. They did contact me after the incident and offer, but it was 4 days later and i had already contacted yes ins, been given a hire car and been told by hire car company that if i cancelled at any point what they were doing i would be liable for all the costs, so i felt stuck with them.

You can return a credit hire car wheneve you want, in fact as you have a duty to mitigate your losses in an accident you should really return a credit hire vehicle as soon as is reasonable
  • I did, I rang them as soon as I bought my car home, I wanted my car back....now i'm thinking i should have let them scrap it....such minimal damage though it seems such a waste.
  • Good points are I have friends helping me and should be MOT'd by the end of the week and will ask for engineers report at the same time, but what worries me is that I've heard several times that a VIC test can take 6-8 weeks to arrange appointment so the timescale thing is really worrying, it seems they will be keeping my £300 premium and not give me enough time to comply. I only renewed in october too.

Yep, I seem to remember last time I took a car for a VIC it was a 6 week wait.

As I said before I can’t see any reason your insurance company would want to cancel your policy. Ring them and confirm that.

Assuming the car is taxed & tested already there is no need to re test it as the old MOT remains valid until its normal expiry date. The VIC is not urgent, you can carry on using the car without it, the only thing you can’t do is renew the tax.

Also as I said before the claims handling company should only be talking to the other insurance company, they should not be doing anything with your insurance company. They certainly shouldn’t be issuing ridiculous ultimatums to you. Their job is to get your money from the people who hit you. Nothing more and nothing less. Ring them and remind them what their job is and if they don’t agree either find another company to handle the claim or deal direct with the other insurance company. (which they will be happy to do once you have sacked the claims handlers)
  • YAY!!!! Finally I have it sorted. After getting hold of a supervisor at yes insurance and asking how i was supposed to get VIC and new log book within 14 days when they hadn't even set a VIC marker against my car, she agreed and said they would accept new MOT and engineers report. Luckily the assesor agreed to email them the report (fail to see why this wasn't done internally anyway) and i emailed them my new MOT.

Today I have called them and all documents in order and policy will remain active.....PHEW!

What a month of abslute hassle, I'mm keeping a small dent in my tailgate coz it's easier...:)

If i get hit again i'm just gonna get out and run, quit driving and get a bike!!!
    (not really)

    Thanks for all advice everyone.
