BT mobile from France

Is it possible to reduce the cost of ringing the U.K from France when on holiday?

My last bill was £90 for 3 weeks worth of calls (it's the wife not me), obviously it depends on the useage, but is there a cheaper way?

Why not get her to call you, take her number and then call her back using one of the low cost carriers like 18866.com or 1899.com?

However, do not use this method to call her on a UK registered mobilephone because she will have to pay to receive your call.

    Sorry,i didn't make myself clear.

We both go on holiday together,it's just her who has a fondness for using the mobile to ring home every couple of days.

Get whoever is at home to do as I mentioned above! But ensure that you give whoever is at home a French phone number to call, rather than your mobile.

We found that the best way is to use the phone boxes over there with your credit card - admittedly this was from Switzerland but a 5 minute call to a UK landline cost about 40 pence. Using a mobile when abroad to make or receive calls is bad news - infact we have found that receiving calls actually seems to cost more than making them.

Further to my previous reply the other benefit is that the display inside the phone box shows you the cost of the call as your are speaking - this should be a good discipline for most people!
