natwest home and contents insurance help

Hi i was wondering if anyone can help. my partner took out home and contents insurance with natwest over a year ago. in august his home got burgled and goods where taken he got a full police report done and they did all of their enquiries in which they where happy with. they have now turned around and adv'd that as he served a prison sentance10 years ago for cannibis he is not insured.he has neve been asked about this otherwise he would have disclosed the information and his conviction was spent after 5 years.

they are still taking his 60 pound a month and have not cancelled the policy, so where do we go from here in getting them to pay out or a rebate of premiums. has anyone got any adv'er letters we can send?

    Hi there Kim and welcome.

    Sorry to hear of this.

Personally I think you have the right to complain on this matter, they should have checked his matters to make sure he was eligible whilst purchasing this policy.
Does your partner still have the terms and conds of this policy?
If not perhaps it would be a good idea to ask for them, and check them over.

Give them 8 weeks with your reasons and if they do not refund the amount that have been paid, you should be able to complain to the financial ombudsman service (FOS).

For more on reclaiming, check this link below, with template letters, and a guideline of reclaiming, post your letter by recorded delivery.
Good luck, please keep us posted.

    Hi Kim

I don't think there is actually a template letter for the policy of this insurance, unless anyone else on here posts up with one.

Another thing you can do here if you want to, on another thread there is someone that used to work for Natwest, he is as good as gold and no longer works for them, but I am sure he can lead you in the right direction of this one, maybe with a letter of some sort as well.
You will find NATWESTSTAFFMEMBER on the reclaim charges thread on the link below, I understand you did not post this about charges but the member above should lead you the right way on where to take this one.;)

Please see my reply to your other post.

If the conviction was spent at the time he took out the policy (I assume he was sentanced to less than 30 months?) they are wrong as he didn't need to disclose this and they cannot take this into account.

edit; just seen your other, other post! Due to length of conviction it wasn't spent when he took out the policy i'm afraid (unless he was under 18)
