P.S. Forgot to add that the only other way out of a B2B Energy Contract is to do a Change of Tenancy (CoT). i.e. If the Limtied Company or Sole Trader Business vacates the premises and another business moves in then that negates the contract. So let's say that you started your business 2 weeks ago a MissMoffet Trading and you agreed your BES Contract in that name and tomorrow you were to form LittleMissTiny Limited then the Limited Company can agree a new contract with any supplier and MissMoffet Trading moves out.
You haven't given enoguh details of the premises and your trading entity/style to know if this is a workable solution.0 -
Has anyone heard of this company? UK Energy who have been phoning us continually over the past couple of weeks, sometimes twice a day. We have been running our business for 18 months and have a contract with EON which I sorted out direct, not through a broker. This company say that our meter is "not on the system" that we are being overcharged. They will not take no for an answer. Tried to google them but no info and they avoid giving any info. Number withheld of course!0

Any business that contacts you for the purposes of attempting to solicit business with you, yet are unwilling to disclose their own contact details when asked are clearly cowboys, scammers, etc
My advice would be to contact your telephony provider to seek help and advice on dealing with such nuisance calls.
I know BT, for example, offer a choose to refuse service that will block the ability of certain numbers from contacting you ... and it even works if the caller withholds their CLI.0 -
Hi,
Thinking of starting a small business and have a question about energy suply.
Do we have to go on a business tariff for gas and electricity or can we go on a domestic tariff as we will be using only a little gas and electricity?
Many Thanks0 -

Will you be a sole trader or Limited Company or LLP?
Are you taking commercial premises?
Does teh Top Line of the Meter MPAN (Google "MPAN" and go to the Wikipedia result for an explanation) start with 01 or 02 which is Domestic, anything else (00 or 03 to 08) is commercial meter.
Why do you have a preference?0 -
Other than VAT at 20% for business there is little difference in the unit rate and daily charge ; domestic VAT is 5 %
Get quotes from.the big 6 - not all the new players do gas. Avoid the brokers.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Hi. Its a commercial premises, a small fast food place. From the supply number on the bill the meter is a type 03.
What sort of prices should I be looking to pay around and what about standing charges?
At the moment the supply is through Opus and they have put us on an "out of contract rates".
Many Thanks0 -
For anyone who is on, or thinking of, a smart meter for electricty, I thought it might be worth mentioning that many companies cannot currently deal with remote meter readings.
I've just been shopping around for a new supplier. We have a smart meter, which should allow the supplier to take remote readings. EDF were offering a good rate, but can't do remote readings, so would require me to supply manual readings. There would be no point having a smart meter.
I was told that of the Big 6 suppliers, only BG and SSE can do remote readings. But SSE charges an extra £72 for this. So, they want me to pay them for the privilege of saving them having to send out a meter reader. Not on your nelly!
Some of the new companies seem to be more geared up for this.koru0 -
Have you tried Opus ?
Installed a Smart within a month - no issues at all.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
I have a smart meter already. I'm pointing out that if you have one and you want to switch from the company that installed it, not all of them can use it to do remote readings. So unless you are happy to go back to manual readings (in which case there was no point in a smart meter), your choice of suppliers is more limited.koru0
