I still remain slightly confused
I am trying to understand the scenario where there are no 3rd parties interfering with father/mother financial arrangements together BUT does the child benefit or child tax credits effect the single mum because of the fathers earnings or financial agreement with the mother?0 -

If a single parent is truely a single parent then then father's income does not affect her benefits at all. Seriously it is very simple and I guess this is where a lot of benefit fraud could come into the equation, you know saying your a single parent when in actual fact you aren't.
As I say it is very simple but also bear in mind it could turn nasty very quickly.*SIGH*0 -
Ok great, so they keep away unless the father and mother dont come to an agreement

if she only claming child benifet and no others benifet thats fine but she wil have to declare it if shes getting over benifiet, but if thats the case yes its best to arrange something between urselfs but make sure you have proof you are paying her iykwim0

The only time child maintenance payments affect a single parents benefits is with Income Support (possibly Job Seekers similarly), where they only get to keep the first £20, any extra is deducted from the Income Support amount as DX2 has already said. They are only interested in the amount the parent is receiving .. they don't need to know anything else about that person's ex.
Child maintenance affects no other benefits for the single parent.
If you and your ex come to an agreement and she chooses never to contact the CSA then no one else will be involved ... but be aware, she can go to the CSA at any point if she feels like it.August GC 10th - 10th : £200 / £70.61
