hahaha
fiddled it?
fraud?
explain
all that would do is supply the NSR circuit with electricity at PEAK times/rates instead of OFF-peak times, if thats fraud.....
put simply, our bill would have been £270 LESS if the damn clock had have been right
the timeswith was 40 years old and sealed, so either the installer got it wrong (back in 1960) or a poltegeist got into the casing to alter the clock
let me reiterate
the clock being set early COST me money, it didnt SAVE money, couldnt do as the ECONOMY 7 rates are (approx) midnight-7am anyway, on a dual rate meter (day/night peak/offpeak)
we didnt get ANY "Economy 7" at all with the timeswitch being set 6pm-midnight and theres no way anyone could defraud the supplier
please think before accusing folk of fraud. Now we all know how it felt to play in the band on the Titanic...0 -

Yes you did get Economy 7, you got it between 6pm and midnight! Meaning all the TV you were watching, cooking, internet use, lighting etc. were being used between 6-12 were on the E7 rates.
I can understand your point that you were being charged the higher rate for your heating coming on over night so in your case it probably wasnt fraud but there have been cases of people altering timeswitches so they get the cheaper E7 rates at peak times of the day (like between 6 and 12 for example)
Also, 6-12 is only six hours?Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
I understand you outrage at being called a fraud, but Kim has a habit of saying what others may be thinking, and what she is saying may be a bit out of order but not far from the truth.
Whilst I don't think for one minute you have done anything fraudulent the fact of the matter is that you will be better off with a clock set to work between 6pm and midnight; this is when you will be using the bulk of your electricity (assuming you work through the day). This electricity will be being charged at the cheaper rate, therefore you WILL be saving money. The storage heaters will be charging up at this time as well, as they will only do so when the cheaper rate is on.
The type of clock you have has two functions, to switch power to the storage heaters on and off at the appropriate time, and to switch the read on the meter to/from normal to low rate. The supply to the storage heaters will only come on when the rotating dial 'trips' the switch on at the time it has been set at....this switch closes the circuit to allow the storage heaters and immersion heater to do their thing. At the same time the switch opens another circuit to send power to the meter which stops the 'normal' read from working and starts the 'low' read. Obviously this is reversed when the rotating dial on the clock is tripped off.
It is entirley possible that the clock has been losing or gaining time in the last 30 or 40 years, and is in need of resetting. It is also possible that a long term power cut has caused the clock to stop, and the wrong timing has been caused by this.
However, if the clocks 'on' flag is physically set for 6pm, and the 'off' flag has been set for midnight then someone HAS tampered with the clock (these clocks have 2 sealed areas on them, the access plate to the cable terminals and the clock cover).0 -
your confusing the TIMESWITCH with the ECONOMY 7 meter, the two act independent of each other (or did) the timeswitch only allowed a supply to a seperate circuit feeding NSRs (total 10Kw) and it being wrongly set gave the circuit PEAK rate electric, the meter was fine, it was the timeswitch that was FAULTY (not fiddled with) being "fast" and switching the NSR circuit on at 6pm instead of midnight
my immersion still got "off peak/E7" juice because it wasnt on the NSR (timeswitched) circuit
the "flags" ( on/off) were in the right place ON THE DIAL but the dial was in advance of the required time
if kim thinks this was a plausible fraud (by charging myself too much) im just amused....
next week, im gonna buy a return train ticket, and take the bus home to defarud british rail.....Now we all know how it felt to play in the band on the Titanic...0 -

1. - No they werent, the E7 rates are controlled by the meter, not the seperate clock
2. - PROBABLY?

Bgas leccy rates...
first 140 kw 36p
rest 11p
economy 7 off peak 6p
or thereabaouts as makes little diffNow we all know how it felt to play in the band on the Titanic...0 -

.
NO i wont/wasnt as THAT (clock controlled circuit) only fed the NSRs....
some of you need to take a course in electrical work like i did for 5 years.........Now we all know how it felt to play in the band on the Titanic...0 -
1, If the Economy 7 was coming on between 6 - 12 then any electric used in that time would have been at the lower rate. Maybe you should correct your post to say that your heating was coming on between 6-12 not the economy 7?
2, Yes probably, I dont know you so I cant say definately.
3, The clue is in the name, Economy 7 - that means 7 hours of cheaper electricityMissing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Basic guide to Economy 7...
A dual (or more) rate meter records useage between set times, i.e. rate 1 and rate 2 ("night" being approx midnight - 6am)
out of the meter comes TWO supply cables
one goes to the normal distribution board (for the house fuses/trips)
one goes to a timeswich which supples distribution board 2 solely for night storage heaters, designed to heat up solely on E7/off peak rates
electricty used between 6am and midnight is all charged at peak rate
electricity used between midnight and 6am is all charged at off-peak (thanks to the meter), but the NSR circuit is only fed (through the time switch) with off-peak electricity
circuit 1 - peak and off peak (metered)
circuit 2 - off peak (timed) - NSRs onlyNow we all know how it felt to play in the band on the Titanic...0
