Most economic way to use heating

Trying desperately to cut down energy bill electric not a problem but gas horrendous!
I have in the past two weeks given in and put the heating on, despite buying dressing gowns and fleece blankets for everyone the house was starting to feel damp and cold all the time.
I don't have a thermostat, but have the heating on at about a quarter of what it could be, between 6-8 in the morning and 4-8 at night, my Dad keeps telling me it would work out cheaper if I had it on even lower but continuously but I'm not convinced.
What are your views?

Hi wendyloub,
You should get more help with this on the heating board so I'll move your thread over there.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

What do you mean by "but have the heating on at about a quarter of what it could be"?
Do you mean the water temperature dial on the boiler?0 -

If the house feels damp you need to ventilate and/ or use a dehumidifier, heating doesn't get rid of excess water it simply suspends it in the air.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

to keep it dry in here I open up the windows and
doors here each day to air the place out, once its fresh.
I close the windows and all of the doors.I have found
that when I do put the heating on it warms up quicker
and the heat lasts longer.
I reckon if you put your heating on for just an
hour in the morning and for it to switch off when
you are due to get out of bed of a morning,it will
be warm enough for everyone while they get washed,
dressed and get thier breakfast.I should linger for quite
a while, seems a waste for it to be on for two hours.
I put ours on when its cold for an hour at tea time
may be another hour in the evening, its been very cold
outside tonight so I put it on again for another half hour.
running it at half steam consistantly is just a very expensive
way of doing it
Because I air the place out each day I have found
that its taken a lot less to heat it,I also always have
the window in the bathroom ever so sllightly open all
the time and kept the bathroom door shut all the time
to enable condensation to expel and not get into the rest
of the place.Everything I am doing i have done since July
following advice from the builders we had working here
and it has brought the gas bill down a lot.
What about your supplier I have my gas & Electric with
one company,paperless billing saving £14 a year and a
discount for early payment,i am with British Gas on click 7
its worked for me but it may be there might be a better tarriff
than the one your on,have you had a look on the price comparison
sites, there my well be an extra saving you can make.:j:j:j0
