Post office want another line install fee please can someone read and advise

Options
Hi,

In August, I took out a Post Office Broadband contract for 1 year, so it takes me up until next August 4th.

I moved in to my property the in June, installed broadband in August, and had to pay for a line to be installed. I asked that the landlord go halves with me as he would then have the line for the next tenant should I wish to move out, and he did so. The cost of the line install was £107. Before asking half from the landlord I called Post Office and asked if 'even if I move, I am charging the landlord half, so please tell me if the landlord still keeps the line.' I was told that 'the line would be kept active for up to 3 months after I leave, giving a new tenant time to use it for their broadband.'

I then found a new property (needed an extra bedroom for my daughter), ready for the end of my 6 month tenancy in November. When I was shown round by the letting agent, they informed me that there was a line there. So I paid up my deposit and took it, safe in the knowledge that I could simply transfer my contract over, and that the landlord who had been kind enough to go halves would have the line for his new tenants.

However, when calling Post Office Broadband, I was informed the following:

1. ) The new property has no line, so £107 installation fee again
2. ) If I transfer the contract over, the landlord would lose the line in my old place meaning he would have effectively paid me half the installation for nothing.

So my questions:

1.) Do I need to make the Post Office listen to my call regarding the line being left for the landlord, even though I have no idea when it was, and what is the best way of handling this?

2.) Whilst it really isn't the fault of the Post Office at all, and the actual broadband service has been flawless (except for the fact they keep sending me quarterly bills even though I have requested monthly 3 times), does anyone have experience of post office helping them so they can keep a customer with them? I just spoke to retention and I'm not sure how they go about retaining but couldn't get any form of help whatsoever with the line or a bill reduction (again, not that I should its the letting agents fault, but I just thought as a big corporation they would have been able to help).

3.) Where do I stand with the letting agent - so they told me there was a line whilst walking round the property and selling it in to me. I have nothing in writing...Should I have a friendly word with them and let them know I am not in a great position as far as broadband is concerned given this constant costs...and they ill informed me. How do people that need to move around a lot ever have broadband, surely theres a way without me continuously paying out £107 (I have to move regularly in my new job).

If anyone can provide me advice on any of the above points it would really help.

Best

This is all your responsibilty and is of no business to anyone else. If you wanted a 50" plasma would other people help? No.

Best thing is to phone the Post Office back to confirm what they can do to help (they may be able to split the payment) or why not phone BT to see if they will reinstate the line for "Free" with an 18 month contract on the line. That's a good deal for some people and then you can get your own broadband supplier too separately. There's a thread in this forum about the "Free" reconnection but you may find that TalkTalk.co.uk can also do a similar deal. Phone around. Work out exactly what you need/want because good deals are not always all that good.

See who can supply you ADSL: https://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php before deciding on anything.

Just take a new line at the new property and leave the old one where it is

Or try and get a free line with BT as Jemma mentioned
