Vodafone Mobile as a laptop modem

Hello all.

Anybody know anything about Vodafone mobile broadband?
In my monthly package, I have unlimited data on my mobile. They say it's unlimited, but it actually has a 500mb fair usage policy.

I can hook up my Samsung Omnia to my laptop to get it online, but I'm just worried I'm going to go way over the "fair usage" of 500mb by using it for my laptop.

It's just going to be browsing the web, no downloads of movies/mp3s etc.

Does anybody have any experience with this?

Thanks

  • I have used my N95 8GB to get games activated online before my modem arrived.

It depends on if your phone supports it, check what software you have for the phone and the manual. If it can be connected to a PC as a modem it would be possible

Basically the data is just data, same as using the internet on your phone. Do keep a close eye on what you are using as its about £2 per 2MB you go over, so about £2 per 4ish average webpages.

I would use it for emergencies only myself.
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies
  • Thanks for reply.

The Samsung Omnia is capable of being used as a modem.

I just don't want to go over 500mb per month.
  • You wouldn't go over the 500MB limit if you dont watch videos, listen to audio and also using some thing like flash block to block all Flash stuff.
