  • Hi everybody!

Thank you all for your replies. I really appreciate them all. I think the general message is that there will always be one or two people trying to make issues and try and make a problem lol but like you all said it goes on everywhere.

I cannot believe how cheap the MQ rates are!!! Now that is very appealing lol!

We'll have to see what the future holds for me and the OH but I dont think MQ's have been ruled out for the future!

    Thank you guys x

I have been married for 5 years to my RAF Husband. We have never lived in quaters as we have our own house. My husband got posted earlier this year due to promotion. As the housing market is so bad we rented the house out.
I moved into Quaters in May this year, I am married with 2 kids. I moved out in September!
I had the worst possible family living next door.- Stay at home mum with 2 kids. Always shouting at them always drinking. Took my kids to the nursery on camp. tried to make conversations with people and just got looked at strangely!
They do talk about you, they do know everything that happens, they do watch out their windows to see who is coming and going from your house.
I could and never want to live in quaters again.

You have been very unlucky. I have lived on 3 different estates and none have been like that. Most forces wives are friendly and supportive I have found.
  • Hiya,
im a RM wife, we have been in MQ for 18 years. These years have been mainly great fun, yes u always get the odd pain in the .... wife, but thats the same in civvy street. life really is what u make of it, the company is there if u want it or not if u dont, i have made some life long mates and one enemy along the way. My philosophy is " if they are talking about you it saves someone else getting a hard time, and if they dont like me thats their loss they can go and find somebody else 2 befriend. In fact if they are that concerned about your life and how your running it, their life must be very boring/unhappy indeed.
I have been a stay at home mum and got involved with other wives and clubs, ive been a working mum, now im a stay at home mum again and keep myself to myself, getting a bit old for all the clubs etc, but still chat 2 forces mums down at the school etc. Having said all that when your hubby is in Afghan and you have no family its great to have at least one friend who understands what your going through, so dont isolate yourself completely u never know when u may need a friendly ear!
My MQ rent for a 4 bed including tax and garage is about £350
My answer to you would be give it a go, you can always leave if u dont like it, but at least u can say u tried, its not 4 everybody but others love it.
Good luck, im sure what ever you decide will be the best decision for you xx
  • Hi I have been an army wife for 10 years and got to admit generally it is o.k. I keep myself to myself and know a few people. There are a few who go on there husbands rank, but the ones I have met are o.k.
I keep myself busy with going to the gym and keeping busy with the kids.
Some of the wifes are a nightmare but it is what you make of it. I would give it a go and you can always leave.
In 10 years I have only had 1 bad neighbour, so not to bad.
Rent (£200 plus council tax £100) Large garden 3 bed semi great house.

I don't think forces wives are any worse than what you find on a civillan estate. Cliques are understandly formed if they move around together with the regiment/corps. Or if they see each other daily. (well army wives anyway, not sure how it works with RAF/Navy,etc and postings)

Here is the link to SFA current charges. I think it's the same across the board regardless of whether its army, navy, raf, etc.

    HTH.
