Just seen a woman i know carrying 4 children in the back. 3 were wearing seatbelts. She had an adult in the front seat and a child in the footwell. She is also driving with 2 faulty brake lights. Only the middle one in the rear screen works.

So she is carry 2 children with no seat belts, for which i believe carries 3 points £60 fine each

for each faulty light carries ???

and carrying more people than intended ???

any idea what points/fine she will receive if stopped by the police?

wish to make her aware of her actions. They only live up the road so no reason why they can't walk.

Thanks
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

  • I think if you genuinely want to 'make her aware of her actions' you dont need to be specific on the Highway code!

Why are you being so judgmental? Have you been keeping an eye on her and checking and what she does and doesnt do that is illegal? Does it not occur to you that it might it have been a one off - silly chance you take - everyone takes - in a way or another, very saldomly in life?

I dont condone her actions but I feel Im in no position (and no-body else should either ) to judge anyone as EVERYONE makes mistakes!

Suppose that on this 'one off event' she has an accident and then???

Maybe she didn't realise she was doing anything wrong.

Maybe you could kindly, in a friendly neighbourly way, ask her if she realised her brake lights weren't working.

£60 per child if issued with a fixed penalty notice. Maximum of £500 per child if it goes to court. No points. (link)

If she has a crash then clearly the consequences may be a lot worse than a thousand quid fine.

If the mother isn't bright enough to work this out for herself I doubt your intervention will have much effect other than to make her angry. Unfortunately, some children have idiots for parents.
  • You could crash into the back of her, point out it she had no brake lights. When the police turn up they will sort out the other problems.

This is more than a 'simple mistake' - deliberately overloading a defective vehicle with passengers, some of them children who are unrestrained. An unrestrained child in a car travelling at 30 mph becomes a projectile at the same speed if the car stops suddenly.

Whilst not being one for telling other people what to do, it REALLY bugs me when people put their kids in the car without belts on. Back lights out is easy enough to understand, and if adults don't put seat belts on then they are old enough to accept the consequences.

To be honest I think this kind of person would be more likely to react to being told about points/fines than worry about the safety of their children.

If you genuinely feel for the safety of her children have a word with her, if not leave it, she'll get stopped soon enough;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Of course prevention is better than cure, but you cant live your life checking and telling people what they can or cant do.
I am sure she well knows what she is doing and unfortunately I' m also fairly sure she wont take your or anyone elses 'advice' very gracefully.
