I wouldn't pay anyone above minimum wage for painting. So about £50 a day.
    :rotfl:You need a calculator.
Skimming should be £400-£600, but worth paying for a good plasterer, because it a real trade; you cant just learn it overnight - like decorating.
    Yes and no.
    £400 for stripping wallpaper? Seriously?
Well you got that bit right! :D

    Cheers

  • Could someone let me know how much a fair quote would be for removing chip paper off ceiling and lining paper off walls (3.6 x 4.6m) and then plastering. I've trying to do up my first flat and the quotes I've received have varied so wildly that I'm beginning to suspect people see a 25 year old female and think they can just rip me off? Any ideas on how much (roughly) a fair quote is would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! And sorry if I should have started a new thread for this - first post, and not sure where to put it!!

Maria, no definitive answer for wallpaper- ideally a room can be finished in a day or day and a half... some times finished by 2 pm , sometime wallpaper to hard to take of. so budget for 100-110 but try and get a guy on a day rate , a labourer i mean.
Plastering too, budget around 380 materials included , but dont bet on it.
get the paper first so the plasterer can see the condition of the walls, and you dont get any surprise overcharging latter.
if i came to quote for the room to plaster and wallpaper still in the wall, i d quote above 400 to cover my back if the walls are crumbled, and still i would not stand for that if walls are really bad.
    .
A good plasterer can anticipate the quality of the walls and give you a good indication if the walls are good or bad.

chipboard, = you can never tell if walls are good or bad

linning paper .. if it looks nice and neat, it means mostt times wall is good and just skimming needed with the usual patching up here and there.

as for painting 800 quid, i dont like painting and try anything not to include it in price as people dont want to pay for it.
but i have seen my perfect plaster, ruined by house owners paint or useles 50pound per day painters.
if you need just to white it up then it can be done in 30 minutes! proper job takes 3 coats of paint, making good,, painter cauck in corners, sanding down and dust.... and the endless painting of woodwork!
