Gift for the hardest man to buy for in the world......

OK, this might be completely bonkers and not what you are looking for at all.
Go to the pub where he usually drinks and and pay in advance for 5, 8 or 10 pints of bitter. Tell the bar manager what you are going to do because you are going to make out 5, 8 or 10 tokens which can be handed over in exchange for a pint of beer. Get some cards printed, or make your own saying something like:
This token entitles Mr. XXXX XXXXXXX to one pint of bitter at the Rose & Crown public house, High Street, Anytown between 25th December 2009 and 24th March 2010.
Or something like that.
It's something he really likes
He will think of you every time he hands over a token for a 'free' beer
It's a novelty to get gift tokens from a pub! (Why don't pubs do this?)
It won't go to waste.
He can buy a round and use up all his tokens if he wants to.
Sorry if that's a bit radical and crazy. :rotfl:0 -
How about one of those L-shaped cushions for when he's sitting in his chair? They're mega comfy! And you could embroider his name or "Grandad" or something on it to make it a bit more personal....0

i thought kay peels idea was great, you could also get a personalised pint glass or tankard for his bitter, he could leave it at the pub, behind the bar.0
-
Well, I'm guessing
a - he wouldn't have one already
b - she could say 'next time, tell me what you want'
c - it would liven up the festive season
d - lets not go there!!!
if only we had a post of the year award......:D0 -
You mention he is diabetic, so no sweets or chocs?
My uncle is also a diabetic and used to love the presents I got him when I was younger, I used to go to boots and buy a couple of different packs of diabetic cakes/toffee/choccy etc, as long as it is eaten sensibly and in moderation they are still ok to eat things like that.
This year I have bought him some diabetic thorntons choccy and toffee, I know he will love them as he misses out on all the lovely christmas choccys etc!!
Does your grandad like going out for meals? Maybe you could take him out for lunch or his tea? and you pay? that way he gets to spend time with you and also have a lovely lunch. I like the idea of paying for his pints in advance but I don't think it would work, as all it takes is for someone different to be on and then he will have to pay himself and they already have your money! Please can anyone help - i am tearing my hair out
i need to think of something for my grandad for xmas - he is the hardest person to buy for in the world - he would be happy with anything - but i want to buy him something he will actually use/need
he is diabetic so no sweets/chocs
he has about twenty packs of unopened socks, about 40 shirts even more ties, and vests, pjs, slippers the works (my gran must have some sort of ocd - she buys stuff constantly)
he's got enough aftershave to sink the titanic same with toiletries - ive spotted stuff in the cupboard i bought years ago - again my grandmas manic shopping means he never gets through stuff
he likes cowboy films but over the years we have bought him ever film u can imagine and he STILL watches the drivel on channel 5
he doesnt really read - just the local rag
he drinks 2 pints of bitter each week - only in the pub - never in the house
hes the worlds best grandad and i really want something special - for his birthday i got him a figurine of a miner made from coal (he was a miner) but dont want to do the same for xmas.
he always appreciates what ever we get but i dont want to get him the same old rubbish...big ask but any ideas?? (you guys are normally so helpful) :ARaising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
Scary thing is, I looked at these and thought 'oh, my SIL would love one of these for xmas!' :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: He loves Borat you see, so I've ordered one. Thanks mrcow.:T
I love the beer token idea btw.

The thing is,for many people, when you get to a certain age..material things just dont matter and have very little value.
And yet so many people wring their hands and stress about buying stuff for people at Christmas.
What would probably mean more to him would simply be to have the contentment that having his family close brings.
Maybe a special home made christmas card from a grandchild?
Something more sentimental rather than material?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

I think I would do something with him or for him.
How about spending a day together doing something he loves?
Helping him out in the garden?
Driving him to the coast and eating chips?
From what you've said, I think a gift like this would be much better than wasting your time stressing about something that will only sit on the side doing nothing.
Making memories is much better than just giving something for the sake of giving.
I really hope this has come across the right way
Let me know what you think...Trying hard to money save....0
