I can't think of any new things to add but agree that time spent is more appreciated by oldies than £ spent.
One of my best pressies last year was a calendar with 12 pics of my great nephew - I look forward to a new one every month. I think they bought it on line just provided the pics and it was good quality too.

the beer idea is great but i dont think theyd go for it at the local - its one of those funny old MW WMCs.
