facial wash

Options
HI guys, need some advice.

I am really trying not to buy any cosmetics/toiletries unless I absolutely have to. So what do you all use as an alternative to the facial washes? I find them so expensive. Unfortunately, I dont think I will be able to use ordinary soap as I have got really sensitive skin.

Any ideas??

thanks

my daughter has quite sensitive skin, and she has been using aqueous cream to cleanse her face - we got a big pot quite cheap from the chemist (can't remember how much it was). I've started using it too, you only need a tiny bit and then I wipe it off with cotton wool or a flannel. it seems to do just as good a job as more expensive creams - when you read the label on these products they all seem to contain the same ingredients - it's the price that changes!

What works for me is a flannel with steamy hot water, and just hold it against your face for a minute or so. The heat seems to melt any grease and the heat wakens your face up and seems to improve my colour a bit. No chemicals at all, nothing to strip away the natural oils either. Just give yourself a nice facial massage with it, its very therapeutic!

Obviously the water isnt too hot, just comfortable, and it is a nice, relaxing thing to do first thing in the morning. I chuck the flannel in the wash and thats it! Easy!

just looked on superdrug online and they sell a big 500g pot of aqueous cream for £2.34. I think you can get smaller amounts for cheaper if you just want to try it out. you can use it as hand cream if you don't get on with it on your face.

also forgot to mention that I make my own toner - I dilute witch hazel with cold boiled water or herbal tea. this lasts for ages as well.

  • I tried cutting back and purchased Tesco Face Wash - was terrible - skin ended up dry and scaly (sp) after only a couple of days, so I went & spent a little more for the Simple one - now no problem.

Not really an answer to your question :rotfl:but what I mean is face wash is not something I could compromise on.

Aqueous cream is brill. Mixed with porridge oats and maybe some cammomile oil (calms sensitive skin) or any other essential oil you want, it makes a really nice face wash (but make small amounts at a time so it doesn't go off).

I agree. Most of the time I use warm water and a facecloth, even to remove mascara.

re the toner - its probably about one third witch hazel and the rest water (you can use green tea if you have it, or add a couple of drops of tea tree if your complexion is oily)

I agree with what others have said about cheap face wash - it's just not worth saving a few quid if you're going to look terrible, but with aqueous cream my skin has actually improved. having said that, I'm happy to spend a bit more on moisturiser as its something you leave on your skin - whereas cleanser you wash straight off (does that make sense?)
