Unoccupied flat contents cover - who to call?

my sister and I want to insure the contents of a modern 2 bed flat once lived in by our very dear departed mum - the trouble I have had getting anyone to insure these contents is crazy - no comparison site will let you do it online and co-op etc say an unoccupied property cant be insured period.

There is nothing of real value aprt from relatively new furniture - no jewellery etc just household effects china glass sentimental nicn-nacs etc

the property is only occupied when we visit so largely at present empty but fully furnished - the buildings insurance is with the company that do the management of the block(s) its safe and very secure with lots of friendly neighbours that know the situation and family members drop in from time to time - plus the people downstairs have a key

Any ideas as to a friendly broker that can help will be appreciated

Unoccupied properties can be insured! See http://www.towergatehousehold.co.uk/unoccupied-property-insurance.aspx for example

A local broker should easily be able to help out (and would be unlikely to recommend towergate!)

    Or google unoccupied property insurance.

A broker will be your best bet but be aware that cover is likely to exclude theft and malicious damage.

    :D

Every broker has companies they love and companies they hate (many with little justification). Personally love it when you hear people (not necessarily brokers) ranting about how one company is so bad but another is so great when they are simply two brands of the same company :rotfl:

Towergate sell their Unoccupied Property product via brokers who are too lazy to get on the phone and shop around. The Towergate product is expensive partly because Towergate trouser about half the premium as commission and they may well add extra fees on top as they have to scratch around for as much money as they can get to pay their massive debts.

You can almost certainly get a better deal if you shop around.

They would have to in order to cover their £600m debt
