So presumably they are not holding you to any sale contract either?
What are you worried about?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Not worried about anything now, I wrote my OP before I visited them yesterday evening and told them I didn't wish to proceed because of the mileage discrepancy, which they accepted. I was just updating with the outcome.A problem shared is a problem multiplied.

If someone came to me with a cheque filled out for a grand less than the screen price i'd laugh them off the yard. Before giving them a good kicking lol.
The 12 pages of fault codes could have been stored in the cars memory for years. We don't go thru everycar cleaning the memory before they leave here.
First point, the salesman neglected to mention any credit card surcharges. That's not how I do business. It's sneaky, underhand and thoughrouly distasteful, not to mention insulting. On an 11k transaction it's a fair amount of money, and I know for a FACT that their percentage charge from the card aquisition would be around half of that. If I could get 1.63% rate as a small business, then a car dealer will be able to negotiate a better rate than that. When somebody asks me for best price I always say for cash or debit cards. credit cards will be higher due to fees. I've had not one complaint about my policy in 8 years.
Second point, I'm assuming you're being facetious. Never kick a customer. It's not difficult to seee why car salesmen have such a bad reputation. I never pay screen price for a car.
third point, Not on a 13 month old car with 6500 miles on it. The car broke down 250 miles from home, it suddenly displaying messages such as "airbag fault" "oil pressure", then all instruments would reset. I was drving at night when the whole dash went dark. When I pulled over, the car would not re-start due to the immobiliser. Spent the night in a layby miles from anywhere.
After getting towed to the nearest garage, and seeing the fault report I opted to have the car returned to to the dealer I'd just bought it from two days before. When I got it back, the salesman was very much "it's not my problem" and "we can't look at it for days".
By that point I'd lost all faith in not only the car but the dealership as well, So the following day I called the dealer to inform them I was rejecting the car. When I spoke to the Managing Director I put all the points I made here to him.
The dealer I bought my replacement car from, was upfront about everything, road-tax included, what their card surcharge was etc.0
