moving water supply

Our water meter is in a farm driveway 200 yards from our house, and due to all the heavy farm vehicles driving over it is always springing a leak, we replaced all the pipe from the meter to the house 20 odd years ago, but now leaking again in the driveway. (its not very deep.) so we decided to bite the bullet and have a new water supply fitted from the mains which runs opposite us. Have had a quote for £3406.98 to do this work as it has to come over the road. Is this a fair price as seems alot to me.

To be honest there is no way to answer this...It all depends on the work involved

Who has quoted that price ?
Does the road work include any traffic warning/ permission that needs to be agreed before work can commence ?

Have you called your water company and found out what if anything they might offer (as some do a lead free deal or a refit for less kind of thing)

If its old lead pipe the water company may connect to the mains for free, this means you could lay the plastic pipe yourself and get a plumber to connect it to the house, is there a soft verge you could run the water pipe through ?
