"...Trade in your phone at a 3 store for money back and get a new one to use on 3"
Just received the above text from 3. It's a contract SIM that I took out of the supplied nokia 6500, which I hated, and put in a nokia 6300.
I asked CS what business it is of theirs what handset I use, to which the reply was that I "could certainly continue to use my existing handset, but it simply won't work"
They can't do this can they?

Yes.
You must use a 3g phone (it's in their ts + cs).0 -
As above, 3 stopped allowing none 3g handsets on their network near the start of this year.0

Well bug ger me with a Blackberry. Thanks chaps
Daft thing is, the nokia 6300 is a replacement handset given to me by carphone warehouse whilst the slide was in for repair (which it has been three times and replaced twice, it's such a piece of junk)
Now I just need to go away and find out what a '3g' handset is0 -
its simply a handset that can pick up a 3g signal.
most modern handsets are able to do this.
the reason 3 dont allow non 3g handsets is because everytime you use the phone they have to pay orange (their 2g signal provider) a connection fee for allowing you to use their network to make the call or send a text0
