I think you'll find that they will have problems with HBOS, need me to post a link to Budgeting & Bank Accounts to see the complaints made about them or can you find your own way there :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

HBOS are notorious for messing you around and should be avoided at all costs, especially when you bank with Barclays - why swap to a substandard tax payer owned bank? (kinda like going from a 4 bed house to a 1 bed flat if you see the irony)

... if you mess them around.

You will see from the posts there that most people are actually very happy with them, but those who have complaints nearly all stem from the customer not following the T&Cs of their account, in which case it's inevitable that there will be difficulties, regardless of which bank you're at.

So what, the banks don't follow their T&C's and when we do them (unenforceability) I don't see you jumping on our side then? Double standards/two faced/employee maybe????

Anyway, back peddle time - What made you link to a thread that had no relevance to this thread? Ive just checked it and the last post was months ago - why did you have it when you never even contributed to the thread?

Do you work for them or summat but too embarrassed to admit it?

  • I done this deliberately, it has no affect on my opinion of them as a bank. Compare HBOS to Citi is a non starter though!

I'm perfectly happy with HBOS, and their online banking is far superior to citibank's dismal site.

the Citi accounts are great. They are slow to setup but when going it works well.

Fair point, you're entitled to your opinion but as a bank there really is no comparison..... however for the record, Halifax online does come in behind HSBC/Barclays/Lloyds - so can't be that good (4th best out of the main 4 banks) :D:D

Everyone has their preference for a bank:confused:. I was not suggesting Barclays were any better (or worse) than anyone else. However, as you already bank with them and presumably you are happy(?), they seemed the obvious choice, particularly when you are in a hurry

  • The story so far...
I have spoken to Barclays and they say the the money is already converted to sterling when it reaches my account. Now I have to find out who is converting it, at what exchange rate, and how much commission they are taking.
This is a surprise as the wage slip is in euros.

That indicates that your husbands employer is sending the payment in sterling (so their bank would be responsible for this), and there's unlikely to be any difference between receiving the money into a Barclays account or a Halifax account, or any other UK bank.

If the Dutch bank's exchange rate is significantly less favourable than a UK bank's exchange rate, then it may be better for them to send the payment in Euros to you - that way, your bank will handle the conversion.
