You guys got me checking my washing machine power usage last night! Apparently a normal 40degC wash on my machine used up 0.73kW according to my plug in meter thing... Now I just need to remember my password to login and check how much my Units cost though I think they are ~20p for the 1st however many units then ~ half that for the rest! Must try 30degC :rotfl:

Thanks for that Shaz, turns out I already had an account with IMeasure but had obviously never used it, so I shall remedy that from now.

My buddy reckons he knows what's wrong with the boiler so he's coming over first chance he gets to have a look. Luckily we were in credit with E-On by about £300 so that covered the mahoosive gas bill.

Been taking a leaf out of Weezl's book and costing all of my meals lately, my packed lunch (tuna pasta salad, crisps, biccies & tub of fruit & nuts) cost a whopping 50p today.

Weezl - how do you make the op's to the mortgage, can you do yours online or do you have to physically go into the bank?

I changed from paying by DD to standing order so now I can change the amount myself manually online each month. My current account is with alliance and leicester, and I'm swapping to hsbc so hoping it'll be easy to do that as well with their online system.

    50p is a good lunch! :)

Weezl you are amazing & inspirational!! :T:T:T Just read this thread & will be seeking out the 50p a day thread - remember seeing it but don't think I actually ventured in ...

I don't have kids but have a good friend with a 3 yr old (4 in April) & a 2 year old who sends them both to nursery now 3 days a week while she's at work, she's a teacher. I know that they do catch a few colds but really not that often anymore - can't remember the last one & we see them every week. Also, the 3 year old was really shy & it's helped him to be more confident & they are both very well behaved little stars. So if I was in your place I would send the little one to nursery. (Just thought I'd throw my two pence worth in - hope you don't mind!!:o)

on the childcare front, my LO will be going the beggining of feb to the childminder while i teach 3 days per week, personally if i was not at work i would not send her, we go to a few groups per week where she socialises, which are pence compared to the childcare costs, plus we are in such a good routine - but this is just me personally

    Thanks Shaz and knithappens.

The pasta with fish sounds lovely. I'll experiment with ratios. Shaz do you do a 120g can of sardines between 2 people's pasta or does it go further than that?

MFW setback: DH lost his credit card :( this is our cashback card. It will take them about a fortnight to replace, so we're going to be losing the cashback on £5-£10 worth of spends in the meantime. Oh well, he has other great strengths and qualities to compensate for occasional wallyness!;)

I'd really like to find the motivation and energy to do some ebay listing, so perhaps need to set myself a challenge.... Hmmmmn, can't think of one at the mo.... will get back to you!

MFW motivational realisation: I plugged in our original term and borrowing into the mortgage calculator t'other day and then compared it to the date we're hoping to shift the mortgage by (jan 2012). If we make it we will have NOT paid the bank £100,782.08 :T:T:T in interest. This is extraordinary, I can't quite get over it . It's like a lotto win or a huge inheritance coming our way... but we earnt it!

Other MFWers have you done this calculation? I'd be interested to know how much you're legally robbing the bank by :)

  • Not sure about sizes it was the large baked bean type size tin (400g?) in 500g of pasta which serves us 3 plus 2 lunch sized leftovers some of those olives would be nice too.

Weezl where is the calculator i have not done a calculation but noticed our mortgage went down by £1100 more than we paid off when we made our 10% op last week

Working on a presentation for uni and my poor head hurts (had my monthly migraine last night!!)nearly finished thiug just titivating and reading aloud for clarity .

Delias thick onion tart for tea here i think then tomorrow will be H/M sausages

stuufing was fine in the end after a bit of tinkering but making links was a right faff i am going to check you-tube for a tutorial before next time (which may be soon as mr m have pork shoulder on offer at £1.99kg apparently) i think next will be pork feta and sundried toms.....

freezer will be ready for BBQ season if nowt else!

Hello Weezl, I've been thinking about changing to a cashback card - can I ask how much you spend/get back on it during an average month - there's just me in the household at the moment, and I'm trying to be frugal, so I am just wondering whether it'd be worth it! Thanks! QB
