Nope done away with windows altogether
Very good.
Did the same a few weeks ago when I realised I hadn't needed to boot into Windows for 3/4 months.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

One thing which is annoying me, is I can't get a PS3 Media Server running.
I have installed the programme after much kafuffle, but cant them to recognise each other.
EUREKA!
IT COULD BE THE UBUNTU FIREWALL!
HOW DO I TURN IT OFF IN THE TERMINAL?0 -

I have ubuntu dual booting on my tosh lappy and i do use it occasionally. As others have noted, getting wireless to work on some chipsets needs some work. I also note that whereas in vista,my lappy has stepping power levels, in ubuntu, the lappy cpu seems to run full on all the time and thus the lappy is laways warm and the blower fires up occasionally . In vista there is a "power plan" so that i can set it to high performance/balanced/power saver which appears to moderate cpu workrate amongst other things..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Toshiba laptop here, and powerplans and cpu frequency scaling works fine.
Then again, I am using Mandriva Linux with KDE at the primary desktop. Plus obviously, is unlikely to be the same model.
But check the ubuntu forums/wiki/docs. If the processor supports it, then there should be some way of getting it working.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

start "Synaptec Package Manager" and search and install "cpufreqd"(This has the speedstep drivers for the kernel) first then "cpudyn" it's a program to control speedstep CPU's
I've never used them (don't have a speedstep CPU) but they should work automaticaly to power the CPU up and down as required.
(*hint if you're looking for a program it's usually easier to go into "Synaptec Package Manager" and type what you are looking for in the "Search" button, NOT the quicksearch box and see what it gives you.)Laters

all problems ironed out - turned out it was the firewall blocking ps3 media access.
