  • Cash Waster - a bit off topic but your nick on here makes me smile, so honest, we should maybe all be called that, just with a number at the end:A

Just got off the phone with a lovely lady at CCCS, need to call all my original creditors and find out what the figures for the debts are as of now and if they were sold on to anyone and whom to and have those details ready when someone from CCCS calls me on Thursday the 3rd December to discuss the situation.

I have a feeling they will advice me against going BR and suggest a DMP instead as (theoretically) I seem to have quite a decent surplus but I think I still prefer to go BR if at all possible.

Right, on the phone now to find out all the debts where they are now and who they are with now.

Thats why you need a proper SOA including rough monthly payments for each credit commitment. If your payments and outgoings are less then your incomings then you are not insolvent. The CCCS will want to know this next week, so you might aswell try and sort it before then, as its not easy to get to speak to the CCCS as you have found out.

Have you checked your credit file to see who is showing where you owe money to?

Dojoman - not sure what your post was about but I have a feeling that you are trying to have a dig at me and this is the last thing I need right now.

Cash Waster - thanks, I have just managed to find out that 2 of my debts (both with Abbey National) were sold to Westcott so need to call them.

Will keep on calling the others as CCCS advised me to contact all, find out what debts is where now and exact amounts and offer token payements till they help me sort yhis out in a more permanent way.

I was also told that I should state my daughter on SOA as a dependant as her student loan is for her to use for her studies so should not be taken into account as "income" for the household.

Will have another go at SOA and post here for comments from kind people who can pinpoit things that I may not be aware (and there is a lot of them) of.

    Thanks again everyone.

    BT £ 25.00
    Mobile £ 30.00
    Pet Insurance £ 50.93
    Internet £ 14.00
    Travel to work £ 100.00
    Lunch at work £ 50.00
    Dog Walker £ 200.00
    Cigarettes £ 150.00
    Dog food £ 50.00
    Perscriptions £ 23.00
    Food/groceries £ 350.00
    Clothes £ 50.00

    Emergencies/Birthdays/Holiday eyc £ 50.00

    Total Outgoings £1,771.29

    Balance £ 551.71

Does the above sound about right? I know I will have the CCCS counsellor call me next Thursday and work through those with me but if someone can have a look and give me some idea about what would be questioned?

I kow the pet expenses and cigarettes definitely will but I am trying to give a true picture of my current expenses now:idea: and I have no idea what is / is not "allowed" and how much can I allow for what?

    Thanks a lot

EDIT - I am coming across a brick wall with the creditors as they are not happy to give me any info over the phone as I do not have account numbers etc. Not sure what to do about that :(

Pet Insurance £ 50.93 Very high...usually the OR will only allow £20-£25 unless you can back it up with professional proof as need
Internet £ 14.00 NOT allowed usually would have to come from surplus unless its needed for work/education

Guestimates will be fine....if you dont have details to hand just give the OR what you have & they'll do the rest

Philnicandamy - thanks a lot for that, very much appreciated, gives me something to work on on confirms my suspicions that some of my expenses won't be allowed.

I can back up the pet insurance and also extra bills for things that that insurance does not cover (perscriptions).

Internet I need for work and my daughter for Uni - my work won't pay for this though.

SKY can go - I am not really attached to it that much.

Cigarettes - will be painful but will have to try to give up or at least cut down.

Perscriptions - I take 3 different tablets per day for blood pressure and heart problems, may look into pre-paid certificates etc to see if this is cheaper.

I did not put down optician though - wear glasses and badly need new ones now.

I won't tweak those figures till I speak to CCCS counsellor next Thursday as do not want to waste anyone's time here - I appreciate how helpful people on this board are.

I know it looks like I will be advised to go for DMP but that would have to go on for much longer then possible BR and this is why I will try to go the BR route to have all done and over with in 3 years rather then longer.

Am I wrong thnking this way?

    Thanks a lot again.
  • to the best of my knowledge you are entitled to some form of entertainment costs, so if you arent an all night party raver, then the basic sky package is allowed. thats what they told me when i did mine, but then my monthly income was somewhat smaller than yours. dont know if thats helpful but sharing info and such... good luck

    Rumour75 - thanks a lot for that.

When I spoke to CCCS earlier on today they have asked me about the cost of magazines I buy per month, cost of my lunches at work etc...so will see what comes up next Thursday.

I am not an all night party raver LOL I practically do not go out at all - just to work and back with occassional trip to Tesco and mostly dog walking in the park where a cup of coffee costs 70p. I do not drink at all - cigarettes and chocolate are my weaknesses...

My job pays quite well but it is not very secure right now and to be honest I am looking into doing a course (about £1500 which I would have to pay for myself) to ensure I have an option to move to something else rather than loose the job altogether in the next few months.

It is all a balancing act at the moment....

    Thanks again

    Hi getting ready

Can I just urge you to think about all your different options before going BR-I really think you should look at other options before going down this route. You have quite a large surplus, and could maybe negotiate directly with your creditors to pay these debts off.

I am not advising you one way or the other, but BR should really be the final, last resort, not the first port of call.

Best of luck with whatever you decide :)

Kerrypn - thanks for your post. All input very much appreciated.

As I have said before, my surplus seems to be large but only because some expenses which I consider essential are not taken into account and that makes things a bit more complicated.

I am looking into going BR purely because of the lenght of time involved in being BR as opposite to DMP which would take so much longer....

Buty I may be tottaly wrong of course..looking at it this way.

    Thanks again.
