cheap formula for ALL, not just those on benefits

My clinic is still selling formula to all. My DD has SMA Gold and costs £6.20 from the clinic, Tesco sell it for £5.98!!! I think all the other brands are cheaper at clinic, when I asked it was because they couldn't buy SMA Gold in as much bulk as the others

is gold the hungry one? i buy aptamil, the first milk and there's a good saving on that.
as for changing milk types, i tried a few, but as spendless said my baby already had a runny bottom so i had nothing to lose lol! i don't know what the difference is between the milks, except some are thicker than others.52% tight0 -
SMA white is the hungry one. Gold is the standard one.:smileyhea0

oh i remember now, it's the gold one roo was on in hospital. it didn't suit him so we changed to omneo comfort which helped a bit, then found out about his lactose intolerance and started adding colief to his bottles. omneo is lower in lactose, there was probably no reason for SMA not suiting him, it just had too much lactose, as did my breastmilk.
omneo is difficult to make if you're on the go as it needs to be mixed quite hot, and colief is tricky when you're out too. when we went away we decided to try another milk that was available in ready made cartons, adding the colief to it and he was fine. aptamil just happened to be the milk we tried, as the ready made cartons of it were the first ones we picked up.
he has also tried hungry baby milks in both aptamil and SMA. i can't say i noticed any difference in any of them other than the lactose thing of course. when we've been out we've even given him ready made cartons of another brand, can't remember which, because it was all they had in the shop. he was fine.
some mums have said their baby reacts to a change in milk, others say their baby doesn't like ready made, or only likes ready made.52% tight0 -
I think my little one would like anything TBH!!
I bought a small carton of aptamil to try before I go ahead and buy full tin. He was fine. At a saving of £1 plus a week, I think I would change milk, but will speak to HV next week first and see what she has to say.
Thanks to everyone for thoughts on this!

I have no idea if my local clinic sells baby milk - I've certainly never seen anyone else with any there either.
I'm glad my DS didn't need any special milk ecause I don't know where I would have got it.

boots sell most special milks, but i assume the prescription ones come from a pharmacy.
if your clinic does sell milk there will probably be a poster saying 'welfare foods'.52% tight0 -
