See post #6. Your aerial may be borderline for one of the mux's. Enter your postcode and see what it comes up with, if you don't understand all of the information, post back with what it says.

Thanks for all of your suggestions guys!
You are a friendly lot over here!! :T

We have tried all of the connections and they seem fine. I havent checked the aerial though, but then we havent had any storms recently and the normal TV reception is still working ok (as well as it ever has anyway!)

I have done the transmitter finder thing and it we arent tuned in to our nearest transmitter which I suppose might help - its only 5 miles further to the one that we are tuned into though and its flatter countryside in that direction. I will find out which transmitter the neighbours are tuned into.

It seems odd that it went from a good signal to nothing overnight. I'll retune and then give a signal booster a try if I'm still stuck.

    Thanks again

You seem to be just missing one mux, so the mux that transmits ITV & Ch4 may be outside the frequency response of your main aerial. They had to fit the new digital channels in with the old existing terrestrial channels and in some areas they have had to use frequencies out of band of the terrestrial group. If it is borderline on signal strength, re-scanning the receiver my help because it will only store the channels that it can see when scanning. What are your mux channels?

hmmm looks like the leaves has a lot to answer for. Not only can it stop a train on its track it can also interfere with digital signals :-)
    :D

I was a consultant at Railtrack for a few months, so I can bore for England about "leaves on the line" :o

I find that heavy rain in the evening does for my signal. First C4 and ITV and then everything if it is really heavy.

When we put the freeview box on now we just get the 'no signal' message.

Is it possible for the freeview signal to just disappear or has something else gone wrong?

What do you think? Please help!

A quick update...after a few days of no freeview it suddenly came back on again, without us doing anything!

    Very strange.

The only explanation I can think of is that the leaves that were blocking our signal have now fallen on the railway line!

The most relevant information in determining which transmitter you should be using is the power (ERP) of the signal and the distance. Main transmitters typically have power of 10 kiloWatts for digital transmission (and 500kw for analogue) which can be received upto 30 miles away. Relay transmitters maybe 10-200 Watts and typically have only a 5 mile signal radius.

Once you know which transmitter is best the information tells you where to point the aerial, what type of aerial is best, whether the aerial should be horizontally or vertically polarised.
