That's probably so far off it's not even remotely possible!
This is a very good point.

It seems that for the last decade we have been building UK up as this big ship with one massive power source, namely a Finance powerhouse in the city.

It seemed to work for a while. No one really questioned how the regions would generate wealth. There was an idea that 'wealth' trickled down from the City into other regions.

To continue my bad shipping analogy, the crunch has punctured a big hole in our ship. Can we still operate in the same way going forward?

Meanwhile, China is still growing, the BRIC economies will demand a greater say on the world stage, and the recent $10bn investment by China in a resource rich Africa continues a growing trend.

So if Mr politician comes a knocking on my door, I want to know :-
    a) where our future revenue generators lie
    b) what plan B they might have if we don't grow our economy as they need to
    c) can we continue to operate a trade imbalance indefinitely
    d) realistically, what kind of jobs are the bulk of our children going to be doing in 10, 15 years time.

As for parliament form, I don't care if it's hung, right, left, up, down. I just need to believe that they have a vision about how we can earn our crust on the world stage in the future.

The sideshow bickering over tax increases vs public spending cuts is just that. A sideshow.

    .

We still have the sixth largest manufacturing sector on earth, although reading some of the comments in newspapers and on here you wouldn't believe it.

    It's amazing but it's true.

Also, until something like Sept 2007, the UK was exporting more than she ever had at any point in her history.

I agree, and I think it's a great thing we have.

Maybe I'm biased but I feel a manufacturing base is key to our prosperity.

You wouldn't believe it from what politicians say though would you?

Will we still be sixth in a decade's time though? On current trend will we be importing cars and vans from China, just like we import televisions and computers today.

    I think we should aim from 6th to 3rd (that's a bronze I believe :) )

Yeah, I'm posting a little more there and a lot less here and putting in a lot of riding.

I've got this to do next year:

I guess it's the equivalent of a marathon over hilly ground.

I would be amazed if that was true because IMHO the reason we had a change of govt was the events of 16th Sept 1992, from my memory the general opinon around was, yes the economy was better but only because the Govt had been forced into the correct economic policies. If the election of April 9 1992 had been held on the 17th Sept 1992 we would not have had to wait five years for a Labour govt.

That cost Labour the election. It was just embarrassing. I watched the election from a hotel room in Paris and when I saw this on CNN it was clear that Lab was going to lose.

I think a lot of people didn't trust labour. They only knew them as a spend and tax party that ended up bankrupting the country and they didn't know if this time it would be different ....

Anyway (as a previous tory voter) I've decided that I'm voting UKIP at the next election as democracy is the most important to me. I'm in one of the tories top target seats and don't mind libdem getting back in as whilst we are part of an EU superstate who's in westminister doesn't really matter. I think there are an awful lot of people like me that will be deserting the tory's and costing them victory because they won't give us (the people who pay their wages) a say on the EU.

    Precisely.

The reckoning is that you should be fine to do it if you follow their training schedule.
To be able to start their training schedule you need to be riding 350km/week.
