Comet Edge Card mystery?

Hello,

We bought a TV from Comet on a 6 months buy now pay later deal, about a month ago. We don't remember signing any agreement in store and we only left with a receipt for the TV which shows the deposit and the balance as buy now pay later. We haven't received any paperwork about this or a card.
On our credit file, it shows a search by Santander group but there is no credit agreement. We have called the Edge Card customer service number with our name and postcode and they say they have no record of us on the system what so ever.
Are you supposed to sign an agreement for this in store? Do they have to give you a copy?
Have we been on the receiving end of a lucky mess up?
Any info much appreciated.

Thanks.

  • Sounds like it but since they have your address it may catch up with you.

Chances are if you didnt sign anything holding youa accountable for payment will be tough.
  • Has any one done this? Did they give you a copy of the credit agreement in store?
  • Several years ago now, but yes. All agreed and signed before leaving with the goods!

  • Nope we didn't sign anything or leave with a copy of any documents... got lucky?

I doubt it - more likely you will get hit by the interest charge - go back to the store ask to see the Manager and sort it out.
  • Someone else on the helpline said, no record of you. You got lucky?!
  • We purchased a kitchen from Focus on 12 months interest free. 3 months went by before finally Creation Finance took their first payment. At the time I got the feeling the sales assistant didn't have a clue what she was doing with the credit agreement and was getting herself confused.

So maybe you did get lucky, or maybe somebody will come along and correct their mistake. Either way its upto you, either push to get it sorted or walk away and see what happens. The balls in your court.
Credit card and overdraft at 18. 2 loans and 3 storecards at 20. University education flushed down the toilet through debt at 22. Car finance at 23. Car repossessed at 24. Rock bottom at 25. • I spoke to someone who works at comet and they said you have to sign 3 credit agreement documents and you get a customer copy. We didn't sign anything. Not sure what to do now. Think ill just wait and see...

Can you remember what the monthly payment was supposed to be? Might be a good idea to start a separate savings account somewhere and save this amount per month into it?

That way if they catch up with you in 6 months time or so, you won't be stuck if they ask for 6 months money straight away. If they don't catch up with you then you'll have built up a nice little holiday (or something) fund!
Any opinions are my own and are offered as advice only and not fact.
  • Good advice. Then write to Edge Card in, say, 3 years time, and ask them to confirm in writing if you owe any money.

Then write to Comet and ask, under the Data Protection Act, for a subject access request of all the data they hold about you.
