Am doing slightly better today. Have taken some lamb chops and wheatgerm bread dough out of freezer along with some jellied lamb stock. Also meant to take out sausages for tonight (lamb is for tomorrow) but forgot so we will now be having a remoska frittata (sp?). have plenty of eggs though so that is no bad thing.

Today I have used up all the leftover rice accumulating in the fridge and freezer -kids had bacon and veg rice for lunch (chopped bacon fried, add rice, add frozen peas and sweetcorn)

OH and I had tuna, mushrooms and the end of a bag of frozen broad bean with cheese sauce and toast -very nice too.

I'm about to make naan bread for our curry feast. Have also done a rice pud for the kids.

Yes I have just realised that they'll have had rice twice today:rotfl:

At the moment, I can't even think about going anywhere near the cupboards for an inventory of those :o - needless to say, I should get some storage boxes and take some stuff out of them as part of our 'Christmas Hamper' - just to get some idea of what we don't need. Definite re-think on what frozen stuff can be made part of the Christmas Stash is also in order!

Some of this stuff has been lurking for quite a while and I am going to get it used up without asking OH what he wants for evening meals - it will just get used and he can like it or lump it! All those fishcakes, for instance, were bought because he said he liked them. They will get served up without asking him and that will be the end of the subject!

Have you tried shoving the chips in the oven with a sprinkle of oil  It might work ;)

I need to join in too, there is an ice monster in my chest freezer! sure it must be costing more to run like that?

Today i will take out the frozen chicken and defrost and cook in my remoska tomorrow. I bought a BOGOF curry sauce so I could use up the leftover chicken the day after! Think that was a good move? Do not want to be putting anything back in the freezer, got a mild 1 so children WILL have to eat it too, although I can see them having rice and nan bread for tea!

I really do need to have a use up, but alittle scared at how much my weekly shop will be when I have to buy`mains` for a whole week, trying not to think about it,sure it will work out ok,

    :hello: Morning!

Just used 6 of the 12 crumpets up for breakfast with lashings of benecol spread. We are cooking up the chicken today, for a friends birthday dinner. Hopefully that will mean chicken soup tomorrow (using up more veg) Thanks :TThriftlady for the idea of the veg building blocks - definately going to do that.

Dh would like more of the banana muffins made, so more frozen bananas will be gone!:j

Slowly but surely making a dent in it all!

This morning I have removed one of the 1/2lb packs of beef mince to defrost. Soaked the last of the tub of mixed beans overnight (new pack now opened and put into the container), now drained and being rapid boiled for 15-20 mins. They'll then need to be drained, water changed and then cooked for another 90 mins (I'll use the pressure cooker instead for this stage!).

That will all become a kind of stir-fried chilli (using a SmartPrice jar of Chilli Sauce) for tonight's meal and will also use up the remains of a bag of sliced mixed peppers. Trouble is that there will probably be left-overs - but that can go on a jacket potato sometime (so will need to be frozen till then :(!). Oh well some things out of the freezer and something back in again!!

Several packs of [unlabelled :o ]thawed home-cooked sliced bacon were diced & went into the saucepan with the spuds last night. When they were cooked, I drained them & added grated cheese & mashed it altogether....scrummie :D

I think jodie kidd's ancestor was a hoarder in the First world war -before rationing started. He hoarded loads of stuff, it was really shocking especially as he was a well-off chap.

One of the measures taken in WW2 to stop hoarding was the rationing system as it prevented the wealthy from buying up all the stock as well as making sure everyone got a share. The points system also stopped this.

Well, today we have eaten all the red lentils in a coconut and lentil soup. Supper will be a lamb stew -probably with a Morrocan vibe and served with couscous. I'm keen to use up my oversupply of grains and pulses as I want to simplify my storecupboard and have less half-empty packets around. I've been making inroads into the pudding rice too -kids will get rice pud 2 days in a row.
