Hmmm. If I'm right, you eat low carb, is that right? So the reason you don't have bread and potatoes and that kind of thing is that you don't eat those things. I'm curious, because it affects what ideas we come up with. I can see some yummy meals like barley risotto, nut & lentil loaf, egg & veg curry, brown rice & bean risotto with toasted cashew nuts. There are some fantastic ideas on sites like veg box and abel & cole. If you need mashy things, perhaps you could stock up on frozen cauliflower and lots of beans.
We're rooting for you, it doesn't sound easy.
Well normally our diets are a fairly complex affair designed to make all bar the sanest person quite quite mad.
Monday to Friday my husband is low carb (think atkins without the bad fats) eating mostly fiberous veggys, fats and of course protien. (he can handle a reasonable amount of veg carbs, just no starches, rice, potatos pasta bread. But at weekends he carb loads so at weekends he eats alot of carbs especially starches.
I carb cycle as follows :-- Monday-Low
- Tuesday-Medium
- Wednesday-Low
- Thursday-High (leg day)
- Friday-Low
- Saturday-Medium
- Sunday-High (refuel day)
hehe, and the kids would rather have wraps or pita anyway.
Tbh though my main priority is to just get though this month, food/nutrition etc is having to take a back seat (which is why i didn't mention it) we have loads of protien shake in so as long as our protiens there, i really isn't gonna kill either of us to have a few too many carbs / not enough meat this month.
Sometimes sadly you just gotta prioritize and eating is kinda important... we'll just have to stick to things as close as possible but tbh im expecting my husband esp is going to have to comprimise his diet somewhat. we've only got £33 and i recone £15 of that is gonna need to go on the pets and loo roll so really we havn't got alot of choice, frankly i'd rather eat abit worse than usual rather than not eat at all.0 -
Ok Apple and Rhubarb it is .... *runs off to add some apples to her stewing rhubarb*
how do you go about making crumble from oats?? i normally just make it the normal way, flour/butter/suger ??! souns like it could me nice, i bet the oats give is a good texture.
Ill make a crumble and i might save abit for my porriage in the morning if i can stretch it.. sounds yum and i've never thought of doing that before, i occasionally and frozen berries/raisins/banana or dried apricots but never stewed fruit.0 -

I LOVE stewed fruit with porridge!
You can soak and cook your dried fruit (apricots, figs etc work particularly well) either for puddings or to have on porridge. It's more filling when it has been soaked and cooked, so this might be helpful.0 -

Well, if you have roast chicken, remember to keep the carcus and make chicken soup http://www.realcajunrecipes.com/recipes/cajun/carcus-chicken-soup/320.rcr .
Okie dokie chicken carcass stripped, 80% of the chicken is in a tub in the fridge with a big fat sticker on it says "touch and die" for curry tommorrow.
The water from cooking the chicken is as we speak being made into this soup with the other 20% of the chicken. TY for recipesmells yummy, which ill freeze for use for dinners, hoping i have enough for 4 portions.
The carcass is back in the slowcooker making stock ... for use ... erm at some point :T
Apples stewed and mixed with rhubard, finally making enough fruit for 2 crumbles... so with the 1 crumble i have, and the tin of pie filling i should have at least one nice treat each weekend which will hopefully help stop things getting depressing, just gotta make sure i have enough milk for custard. Can you use dried milke for custard?0 -

cant see why not? I would use dried milk made up for cooking and no probs!
I think you have the right attitude with diet choices etc. Its great to be so disciplined and stuff but right now you really can't afford to be fussy with it.
Have you had a go at any meal plans etc? Maybe even just do a couple of days. You seem to be much more on top of things now and positive attitude. Awesome. I love it when a plan comes together.A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

loo roll so really we havn't got alot of choice,
I usually avoid cheap loo roll, but have been doing a bit of an experiment for the last couple of weeks to see how the cheap stuff wrks out for us as a family and what i have discovered is that no matter how much the loo roll costs, my kids are going to use more than they need. if they are going to wrap it around their hand twice then i might as well just buy the cheap stuff, they'll use too much no matter how much it costs.
So now i buy 4 cheap rolls a week at about 44p for (there are 6 of us and 2 bathrooms) and i keep a nice pack of 2 good quality loo roll in reserve in case royalty drop in.
So based on my new frugal-loo-roll-lifestyle, in a month i would spend only £1.76 on toilet paper.0 -
What pets have you got?
Im feeding 2 adults and 2 kids, including a very hungry 7 year old who i sware can out eat more grown men. 2 cats (one of whom can only eat wet cat food due to a damaged jaw) and a greedy german shepard cross.
