Went to M&S recently and got a chicken worth £8.50 in the two dine for £10 veg and a desert and .wine served 4 for sunday dinner. The left over chicken did three more meals. Made chicken supreme.then put scraps into stir fry then the bones made soup. What a bargain we had friends for dinner on sunday and used the leftovers for the rest.0

thanks for that fedupandskint - I have most of that stuff to hand, and DH loves his muesli
I just did an inventory too. I'm ITCHING to put a shop in (well, it has been over a week now LOL) but we're erm, actually very ok. Put it this way, when it came to checking out the freezer, I was actually laughing because I thought we were in dire need of more stuff. If I said I found ten whole chickens in there, and that's the tip of the iceberg.....:rotfl:
I might just do an 'offer shop' this weekI can't NOT do a food shop. It makes me all antsy.

Hi all,
I've started this new thread at the fear of taking over the Grocery Challenge with my lists. I've done an inventory of the contents of my cupboards and really need to clear these (or at least use and reduce them) so I can start proper meal planning without things going off or out of date. (I really want to use up the herbs, spices, and dried stuff essentially).
My problem is is that I just don't have the imagination or skills to work out a menu from things that are not already in my freezer/fridge. I tend to buy ingredients in according to the recipes but then don't have another recipe or idea to use up the remainder of the stuff.
I have a £200 budget but this includes nappies (1 is in reusables) and wipes, washing and cleaning products. I buy free range only.
I am feeding 2 adults and 3 children (11 months old, 3 and 8).
Can you help me use/reduce my cupboard contents?

Hi Floxxie,
You have plenty in and lots of variety that should keep you going for a while. These are some things that jump out at me:
The tomatoes, minced beef, tomatoes could be used to bulk cook a bolognese sauce or add kidney beans to make a chilli.
The frozen veg could be used with the pasta to make a pasta bake using some of the cheese and herbs to make a cheese sauce.
Again use the veg with the chicken stock to make soup or use them with sausages and tinned tomatoes/passata to make a sausage casserole.
Gammon, cook on the hob or in a slow cooker if you have one, then serve as a meal, use any leftovers for sandwiches or re-freeze for a second meal and use the stock to make soup.
You might find some ideas in the current store cupboard challenge where people post their cupboard contents and others help by coming up with ideas for using up the food?

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the replies together.
