That seller's reply was far too hard to read.
BWNT definitely = Brand New With Tags
Bought off ebay does not automatically equal new!
So the seller is claiming any old tat they buy off ebay is new as they haven't worn it? What about the previous owner?
Even if the previous owner had not worn it, it should only have been described as new without tags or BNWOT.0 -

She was a power seller with a couple of thousand positive feedback.
So what happened in the end, did she just leave it at that?0 -
Going to upset a few honest ebayers here but I always thought that it was a euphamism for "shoplifted" or "otherwise aquired" when sold by an individual rather than a trade seller particularly when they have several of the same item in different sizes!
Before anyone complains I do know what it stands for and I know most traders are perfectly legit0 -
Dormouse wrote:Hmm, that's strange. I don't think the labels at the back count as tags; I mean, obviously all brand-new clothes are going to have the labels...
Did the seller of the "BNWT" item specify condition in the item specifics section? On the selling form, there's a menu with the options New With Tags, New Without Tags, New Factory Second or Used. I suspect the seller is perfectly well aware of the accepted meaning of BNWT, but decided to be a smart-!!!!!! to try to get a better price, figuring that once the buyer received the goods they'd probably just keep them. I have come across a few examples of astounding acronym ignorance, including: on a supermarket ad board "£50 ono no offers", and on eBay, a small and fairly inexpensive compact camera described as an SLR. I have no idea what these sellers thought "ono" and "SLR" stand for.
As to the point about shoplifting, inevitably stolen goods are sometimes sold via eBay, but I think they would be a very tiny proportion of BNWT eBay goods.0 -
/back on topic.
thanks everyone,
After some honest emails and the link that was posted here, I have agreed with the seller to refund me £8.00 from the original £22.00 paid and I will keep the 2 tops.
Morale of the story -
Be nice, treat the other person how you would wish to be treated and you can both agree to a suitable resolution.
Thanks again every1.
Just back from the post office 9 items posted, bust ebay night last night w00tTo be able under all circumstances to practice five things constitutes perfect virtue; these five things are gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness and kindness.0 -
Hi
Yes she didn't do anything and I didn't pursue it as I didn't want a retaliatory neg.
I have since set up a seperate buying account as I am fed up of getting boxes broken and this sort of thing and not being able to do anything about it because as a seller my feedback is too important.0
