utility warehouse do a 5% cashback on a mastercard, similar to amex, but for life, not just 3 months! Its s preload card, so assume there is minimal credit check if at all. 5% and build a credit score!

and to the cynics, no I dont get a referral, I dont even have the card as Im still on AMEX 5% (3rd time round with threats to leave!). It came as a local rep handing out business cards in town to sign up for the whole utility works, this just caught my eye. I thought it may help some, if it doesnt, read another post

For clarity, this only works with certain retailers and gives you money off your utility bills with utility warehouse which may or may not be competitive for you.

Might be useful to someone but it's not cash "back" in your pocket.
They take it off the service you buy from them.
Not the normal understanding of cashback where you get it "back".

    Indeed.

And add to that the initial fee and the fact they charge each time you top up.....

The products are not comparable. I'll stick where i am thanks. ;):rotfl:

I see so pre-loading the card and using it in one of their pre-determined retailers results in Utility Warehouse taking a percentage of that spend off any utilities that you have billed through them.

Most certainly not comparable to a "proper" cash back card unfortunately, the old adage of "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" seems to apply here :o
    Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Looking at the T&C's, I don't think it's the worst deal. If you already spend money each month in those retailers it could work out ok. £400 spent a month on groceries means £20 cashback. Factor the £1 a month fee and the 35p (I think that's what it said) to top-up and that's still nearly £19. If nothing else it could pay for phone and broadband for a month.

Yes it's not a regular cashback credit card, but I'm sure it could work for some people, and it doesn't appear to be a scam at all.

It's not a scam, but surely you have to take account of the utlity prices which will always vary by consumption level and area.

It's only going to be a good deal where they are competitive on your utilities AND you shop at those retailers.

There might be some people who fir the bill, but I do think "cashback" is misleading.

It's not similar to AMEX because with with AMEX you can get the cash back in your pocket (you can also offset it against your bills if you want but that's a CHOICE).

Yes but you don't need to take ALL their utilities. Just take the phone at £10 a month, spend £200 in participating retailers (easy if you do your weekly shopping in Sainsburys) and then you have free phone.

Their website doesn't misrepresent the card at all, so they're not misleading, even if the OP maybe was.

I may be cynical but something doesn't add up here. It's extremely generous terms for what is essentially a very sub prime product !

But free phone rental is not "cash" and it's not "back" either?

Why describe it as cashback when it isn't?
Why not be honest and say it's a discount on a service?
