ok, I shall rephrase. shall I get my tenancy agreement to say furnished or unfurnished?0

I would have guessed unfurnished makes you look more settled... but I can't imagine it makes a huge difference? Always wondered the same thing though.0

I also wondered this..... It MUST make a difference or they wouldn't ask. Maybe if its unfurnished you would have less disposable income as you had to buy furnature?Bank Accounts - Barlcays Premier[/B] - £1000 o/d, HSBC - £200 o/d- First Direct - £500
Credit Cards - Barclaycard £2000 - Silver Card £1300 - Flybe £7500 - HSBC £1000 - First Direct £2500 First Direct Gold £3000

It's a fair question, and the OP isn't looking to "lie" by asking it - I rent as a lodger in a private home and have some of my own furniture but most of the flat is already furnished, so what am I? Part-furnished? Never seen that on a form.
I tend to say "tenant unfurnished", with the thinking that I don't want to look as if I'm just wandering around carrying a stick with a red-spotted knotted hanky full of stuff on the end of it.
If anyone wants to argue that I don't own "enough" furniture, they can help me move next time!Everything turns out all right in the end. If it's not all right, it's not the end.

It does impact on your score - yes.
If you are in unfurnished you get a slightly higher allocation because it shows stability, i.e. harder to get up and do a midnight flit! So it is always best to say you rent unfurnished if you want the best possible score other than being a homeowner (don't lie cos its easy to check homeowners)2010 - year of the troll

Now I would have thought it was easier to do a moonlight flit with it being unfurnished!
However, I take on board what you have said and thank you very much.

Think of it from the lenders perspective, you aint gonna live there with no furniture and usually you spend a bit to furnish a house.....2010 - year of the troll

Do you have any official source for this or is it just your opinion? Genuinely interested to know as thought the furnished/unfurnished question was actually related to something completely different (which I will explain after your reply!).

Yup - My daughter applied to a bank (abbey) - furnished tenant. Declined. Went next door to barclays and got instant accept when she said unfurnished. Similarly, a few months after this she applied to Abbey again as unfurnished who this time accepted her instantly....
Thats a factual example but yea, its quite official (remember I SAR'd - and have been fighting legislation etc - with all the CRA's, FPA's etc and learned a lot from their so called 'internal' screens)
A good SAR to do is Halifax, they kinda give away a lot of trade secrets2010 - year of the troll
