Then after a few months, once I got the bank statement from Barclays (which I could use my passport to prove my name and the bank statement to prove my address). I opened some credit cards and current accounts without any problem. Although I did get rejected by some credit card companies!!
Your point is???
Read my posting again please.0 -
I applied for an Lloyds TSB Classic Account. I was told that I have approved for Visa Debit card. The advisor told me that it would take a month before I will receive my card and chrque book.
It's already 2 week and nothing has been received. Any idea why L/TSB said it would a month to received the card?

I am sorry if I said anything wrong?! I did read your post.

Overseas people need to be resident in the UK for at least 3 years before some banks will consider debit cards, loans or credit cards.

My point is very clear, please do read my post. I am from overseas....I just gave some of my experience....well...take it or leave it...
By the way, where did you get the information about overseas people need to reside in the UK for at least 3 years before some banks will consider debit cards, loans or credit cards?? I certainly can't find this term and condition in any bank or credit card agreement??
Would you mind telling me which "some" banks you are talking about?0 -

So are you a Chinese Citizen or are you British coming back from Living in China? If you are a Chinese citizen who has come to live here I would be very suprised if Barclays gave you a Credit Card with a credit limit and a Debit Card with a current account within a few weeks of arriving here. Unless you had some connection to Barclays while in China?0 -

The majority of Banks will look at someones credit history before granting credit. If you have a current account with either a Visa Debit Card or a Meastro debit card you can go overdrawn on these or guarantee cheques. This a form of credit. The majority of banks will like to see at least 3 years credit history to help them make a decision. What kind of Current account did you get with Barclays? What kind of limit did they give you on your credit card?0 -

I said SOME banks will require you to be a UK resident for 3 years before offering credit.
You said that you had been accepted by SOME banks and DECLINED by others.
You seemed to be confirming my post.
I work in a bank, it is not a customer's terms and conditions thing but an internal decision which can be altered at any time and forms part of the bank's lending criteria.0 -

Try Nationwide. My sons girlfriend is Thai and has only been in this country 3 months, she qualified for a flex account no problem with debit card cheque book, visa card if she wants it and also overdraft. The only thing she needed was her name on one utillity bill and the bill to prove it. Befor this she couldn't pass the check in the UK but her home address in Thailand actually credit scored her extreamly well0 -

I am a Chinese Citizen. I live in Brentwood. I walked in my local Barclays branch and asked for a current account and a saving account. The lady worked in the customer service was very nice. Although she asked for all sort of questions which we didn't normally need in China. At the end, she said that I could also try to apply their credit card as well. I remembered that they did call to the address which I gave them while I was still on the way back home to confirm my residency. At the end, they granted me £400 credit limit for the credit card which I cancelled it, because it would charge me annual fee for the second year. I had a friend who came from Thailand. He studied two years course for master degree. He also got the same account and credit card from Barclays within a month when he arrived in the UK. At the end of his last year, he even got a loan of £1,000 which he paid off when he worked in the US.0 -

Sorry...I have to clarify that I was not confirming your post. I don't want to mislead people reading the posts. The credit cards which I got rejected were GE '3%' Cashback Card, Halifax One Platinum Card. The reason they rejected me was not because I resided in the UK less than 3 years. For GE Card, I am still following with them. For Platinum Card, my income was not qualified. They did offer their classic card for me.
Which department of the bank are you working? Interestingly, I used to work in the credit card department of a bank when I was still in China.0 -

I applied the Lloyds classic current account and their monthly saver account on 27 May. I can't remember the exact date, but I received my visa debit card, then internet user ID, then pin for the debit card, then the cheque book. Today is 11 June. I hope this information will help.0
