Not allowed Debit card

My partner has had a current account with LloydsTSB for nearlly a year. She has £7000 in savings in her account and has been having her pay paid into her account for the last 9 months. As she has just started a new job she requires a debit card as she may be required to travel and doesnt want to carry cash everywhere. Lloyds have said no she cannot have one, is there any other bank that are offering a debit card to new customers as she is quite disgruntled with lloyds.

Can't really add much to the accuracy of the last post. Seems a little incongruous they would refuse.
But also a bit odd your partner is carrying that much in her current account? I'm assuming she's getting at least 4%?? But she may be better putting some of it in a slightly better savings account / ISA etc?If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
She has only been living in the Uk a year btw so she opened a lloyds account as she couldnt prove address, etc when she first moved here and i had to submit letter confirming address, id , etc as i am a lloyds account holder. Now she has been working a while she wants debit card and to move her money into savings account. Lloyds told her the computer said she couldnt have one, then when she asked to see a personal account manager they told her it was no point as they sould say same thing, what a load of rubish i thought.0

i suppose she doesn't have much history on credit file - and nothing to access
kinda like a catch 22 situation - how are you supposed to get credit without in first place, then once you have something you get loads of offers0 -
Should she wait till the year is up and try again? Is it easier to get a credit card?If eligible, would it make sense to sign on to the electoral roll to develop a profile for the rating agencies? What else could she do in this respect?Trying to keep it simple...0

Overseas people need to be resident in the UK for at least 3 years before some banks will consider debit cards, loans or credit cards.0

Well! I come from China. The first week I arrived, I opened a current account with Barclays which they gave me credit and debit cards.
Then after a few months, once I got the bank statement from Barclays (which I could use my passport to prove my name and the bank statement to prove my address). I opened some credit cards and current accounts without any problem. Although I did get rejected by some credit card companies!!0
