    Good idea.:D:D
Nature wants the human race to survive. However, it does not depend on us because we are not its only invention.

I never wore a helmet and neither did any of my friends when we were young and Ive yet to hear about any of my friends who hurt themselves seriously whilst falling from a pushbike.

A dear member of our family died after falling from her bike while out for a country ride - young, fit and healthy with two small children and everything to live for - it appears her front wheel hit a stone and she lost balance and fell. The neurosurgeon was very clear in saying that a helmet would have provided adequate protection to have made the accident survivable.

Please, please always wear a helmet.... the pain to everyone you would leave behind is unbearable and avoidable.
    :hello:
  • A friend's dad survived a nasty hit & run simply because he wore a helmet. In his 70s, nearly every bone in his body broken, but his head was fine because of his helmet. Thankfully they caught the driver, he'd actually had to wash his car down because of all the blood, that's how bad the collision was. He told the police he'd hit a deer and that's why he washed his car, nasty piece of work.
  • It would be as reckless as riding a motorbike with no helmet, or a car with no seatbelt, IMO. But like I said, you have a choice not to protect your head from injury, go ahead and continue as you're doing, but don't expect responsible parents to listen to you.

I don't recall saying anywhere in this thread that I don't wear a helmet.

Do you wear body armour while cycling? No? Why not? Aren't you being reckless? Does your car have the latest side impact protection and multiple air bag systems? If not, why not?

You don't seem to understand that one person's perception of risk may be different to yours. That's why we have some people who go downhill MTB'ing every week, and others who prefer a nice stroll.

As a brain surgeon, he is more concerned with protecting his brain than anything else, knowing much more about the fragility of the human brain than most people. So no, he doesn't wear body armour, or a full face helmet. If he has a major collision, he could well die, but if he has an accident which might ordinarily result in a bash to the head and perhaps a few broken bones, he has at least taken steps to protect his brain from injury.

Right, so he's so concerned about his brain that he only uses the meakest form of protection, rather than buying a full face helmet which offers massively more protection than his fruit bowl.

    Ok. That makes sense.
I don't care if you take my view seriously. I am only baffled by your attempts at convincing parents not to make their children wear helmets when they cycle.

I'm doing no such thing. Learn to read before you talk such nonsense.

Go and look at accident stats for cyclists per million kilometres, over decades. You'll find your argument is nonsense.

I fell off my bike while off-roading the other day, dropped 5 feet into a stream hitting a branch on the way down. I only survived because I landed back-first in bracken and water. If it wasn't for that water, I might have broken my back.

Therefore I'm now going to carry a 10 gallon container of water and bracken on my back, in case it happens again.
