should i upgrade aerial

Hi sorry didnt know what to search for, please bear with me whilst I explain my "problem"
We have sky in living room fed through to 2 bedrooms with coaxial splitter, quality is ok. Problem we can only watch what is watched in living room when upstairs.
We had freeview before re-tuning in each bedroom. One was an old box and has died the other has much fewer channels since re-tuning. The signal without freeview is poor. A quick visual on the 2 aerials on roof shows that they both probably need upgrading.
What do I do? We are in council accomodation.
Should I:
go for multi room sky (only need one extra room can feed through to the other)
upgrade aerial and buy 1 new box
go with indoor aerial and 1 new box
consider freesat - can I change LNB and then feed from dish to the bedroom of course buy a freesat box/es (The dish is on the shed and I could reach but not sure what to do, but willing to learn)

I need the cheapest option, i have just been made redundant, but I cant stand the arguements between hubby and 6 year old daughter when he wants to watch golf and she wants Tiny Pop on. Me - I just go in the kitchen and listen to local radio.

I am getting old I remember having the one tv and kiddy progs stopped at a certain time and then it was my parents choice after and if we didnt like it we went to bed. Of course there was the old 425 and 625 channels and good old black and white.

Was live really easier then?????
