Rental Inspection - right to specific time?

what many tenants fail to understand is that appointments with workmen often run late.... a plumber cannot gauge the length of a job until he has actually seen it and diagnosed the problem... then he may have to go away and order spares... then the wrong spares may get sent... then the new spare arrives and it does not solve the problem....
oh that life were simply hourly appointments which were all kept on time .......0 -
If I were you I'd clarify with the letting agent that the contractor makes sure they ring and knock before letting themselves in.
You don't need to be around and attentive. Just make sure they let you know they are there, let them know you are there and then get on with your business in another room or elsewhere. It's a business-like relationship between you and the contractor.
I agree that an 8 hour window if you'll be around is possibly a bit of an ask, but trying to pin them down to a 45 minute window in your day is unreasonable.0 -
Have you had a gas inspection before, just checking you know that all the landlord's gas appliances need checking, so that's boiler, hob and fire in this house. As for the times I usually ask for the engineer's number then I can ring and ask the detailed questions directly or perhaps ask him to ring you when he sets off to yours so you know when he's due. Not that it was necessary for me this time as I was given a half hour slot when he was due and he arrived during that time. The whole thing took just over an hour. Don't forget to check he is gas safe registered. Also you can put the chain on the door if you have one so that he has to wait for you to answer the door instead of walking in using keys.0

Anyway, I agreed for them to arrange an inspection for another day. She came back with next Tuesday. Fine, providing I have a specific time. He can only do the morning, so I said "10.30 until 12noon" would be fine (baby feeds at 9.30/9.45am and about 12.15pm): would give me time to feed baby and hide my BBs away again
congratulations on the baby. :T
But I really think you are giving the LA & the gas man a hard time. If it gets to 12.15 & baby has to eat NOW, either excuse yourelf & go into a room where there is no gas appliance to feed in peace, or carry the baby round a bit until he's gone.0
