DELL Delivery HELL

  • I ordered a laptop from Dell for my daughter a couple of years ago which she paid for herself with savings and birthday money. It did not arrive on due date although we were told by Dell that we had received it and signed for it.... I called every day to try and resolve the problem. About a week later I got a call from a lady saying she had a parcel for us. She was moving into an empty flat (the address was similar to ours but a different town!), and found the laptop in a delivery cupboard. Luckily our phone no was printed on the address label. We had to arrange to collect it from her ourselves. Dell did give us £50.00 goodwill payment but we would never use them again.

Oh God, I ordered my daughter a laptop from Dell last night, with a delivery date of 7th Dec or before.

Hope it comes in time and isn't DOA!

I have a Dell laptop. It developed a problem within a few weeks and started shutting down randomly. I phoned Dell under the warranty, they told me to back everything up and sent an engineer to my house the next day, to replace the hard drive and the motherboard.

It is four years old now and still going strong, although during that time it has had two new mains leads and a new keyboard, all under warranty and all next day service (I took the three year extended warranty when the first year expired, which worked out to £50 a year which I felt was worth it for peace of mind). To be fair it gets a lot of hammer as I use it all day every day (I don't have a desk-top).

I'm about to replace it as I want to upgrade to more ram and windows 7, and I have no hesitation in going back to Dell.

Well brace yourself if something goes wrong because I ain't dreaming - having a nightmare quite possibly...
  • My parents bought me a Dell PC for my birthday one year...thing never worked properly right from the get-go...really didn't like it. Anyhow, you couldn't pay me to take on a Dell now...my father has a Dell laptop, but I refuse to have anything to do with the company.

Tell us more WolfSong2000 - what was wrong with it, and more to the point what was the customer service like when you needed help? Were they helpful? Keen to put things right? Did they get things right in the end? How long did that take? How easy were they to contact - phone, letter, e-mail? Did they reply promptly? What Lap Top have you bought since - HP, ACER etc? How does the support/customer care re your later computer purchases compare to DELL?

Look forward to more detail if you get chance to post.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Bought a Dell Laptop in Sept. Arrived before delivery date. Few minor issues on arrival. 40 minute call to Dell got them all sorted.

Nothing but +ve experience from me.

OH is in IT and has helped set up Dell PC's for people in the past and has seen issues with delivery etc. He says if all goes fine Dell are great, its when things go wrong their customer service is rubbish.
Our PC is bought/customised by him form a local wholesaler, so at least if there is an issue with any part he can take it back in person.

Trouble is with any big company these days customer service seems to be bottom of the heap for action.
good luck to OP. I have found a written compalint seems to get the best responses from any company.

For those people who have asked, an update!

We received the monitor this morning! I won't repeat the story (painful experience) but my view remains, buy a Dell pc at your peril because if you have a problem, you really have a problem!

I do think writing a letter, finding a direct fax number to someone senior etc helped a lot, but that really shouldn’t be necessary.
