Burglar house alarm - what makes a good one?

the best alarms have four legs, teeth and a loud bark. I used to work with offenders and did my own unofficial research. all the burglars i spoke to said that an alarm would not stop them (nobody listens to them) and could highlight the fact that you had stuff worth pinching. None of them would risk getting bitten. they would look at several houses in the area and pick the one that looked easiest to break into.

True, but you could setup some wireless cameras and stuff the computer in the loft and padlock the hatch. Could easily maintain the computer via UltraVNC.Lets hope the Computer doesnt get stolen during the break in
I agree about the alarms indicating you have something to protect - plus people just tut and say "not that another alarm going off, I hope it stops soon"...well, I do.
