Do you get up in the morning and think "what flammatory remarks can i post today to egg people on & stir things up?"
IF YOU CAN'T SAY ANYTHING GOOD ,SAY NOTHING AT ALL0 -
Its a valid point I make, they are making a plea for financial assistance to reach a target to get healthcare, its a valid question to ask how much the family are contributing. When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0

Well I guess you'll never know will you, they don't have to tell anyone how much they are giving towards the cause - if you don't want to help then do nothing and shut your mouth while you're at it. Common sense tells you they're probably selling every last thing they have to raise money, but no average Joe has 300k in their back pocket.
Double thanks to Dee Twomey for what you said, this 'dude' clearly has little else in his life as it seems every board I look at is littered with his 'two penneth'.OU Student! - ED209, SDK125, DSE212, SK124, DSE141, SD226, DXR222, DD303, DD307 = BSc Psychology0 -
this is not meant as a criticism of those who have given
but
did anyone actually look up who the funds are being raised for?
this is who http://www.2simpletrust.org/Over the past three years the Trust has become best known for its fundraising on behalf of children with neuroblastoma, a severe and usually fatal form of childhood cancer. Children's hospitals in the UK, including Great Ormond Street, are only able to offer palliative care. This means that the best hope for even a partial or medium term cure lays in treatment at the Sloane-Kettering Memorial Hospital in New York. Treatment costs can reach in excess of £500,000.
they were registered with the Charity Commission in 2006
yet there was already an established charity for neuroblastoma
http://www.nsoc.co.uk/
registered in 1983
a comparison of the accounts of both, available on the CC website, is interesting0 -
To all those above, and any others that may donate.0

According to the website a few minutes ago:
Total raised online:£75,638.22
Offline donations:£0.00
Gift Aid plus supplement:£18,698.65When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0 -
This is a very sad situation, and I shall be donating a few quid myself.
However, some points made earlier in this forum are worth discussion.
Firstly, I looked at the Charities Commission site and the high level accounts (displayed in graphical format for non-financial types like myself) indicate they have £632k in 'retained' funds - in which case why don't they just cough up and get the little girl treated?
Secondly, the request by borders_dude is not unreasonable. If I were to read that the father had sold his car and remortgaged his house then I would be impressed and inclined to make a larger contribution.
If however, the family are expecting goodwill from strangers to treat their daughter and keep them comfortable, then that somehow doesn't seem so deserving.
Thirdly, why is there more than one charity supporting the same cause - surely they should join forces and benefit from economy of scale, synergy and all that management babble...
Anyway, like I said, I'll be making a donation next. Do the same and help Robyn, but let's not shy away from discussion of how charities work. My cynical side suspects that inappropriate sums of cash are consumed, and do not reach the intended recipients.0
