Well, I was very happy with Autotrader. I hate ebay with a vengeance because my daughter lost over £300 (that she couldn't afford to lose) through a scam on ebay, and they didn't give a toss.

I have been a member of eBay for almost ten years, buying and selling, in that time I have never lost a penny.

I only buy from long term sellers with a proven track record.

I have been on Ebay for a number of years too and don't ever remember losing out.
Having said that, all it takes is for one transaction to go pear shaped and your perception of that site would be tainted forever.
Had I lost £300 in one transaction after all the years of never losing, I'd hate it with a vengeance too.

Keen photographer with sales in the UK and abroad.
Willing to offer advice on camera equipment and photography if i can!

Sorry to hear that your daughter got scammed.

Unfortunately getting scammed on ebay and expecting ebay to compensate is like buying a dodgy Rolex from some bloke down the pub and then expecting the pub landlord to pay out when you find its a fake.
  • Well, have listed it on Auto trader and crossing my fingers.....!
  • I sold my MX5 on Pistonheads recently for £3,000 (free advert) - had also listed on eBay and had someone offering me £2,250 cash, cheeky blighters! You can list on both and cancel the eBay auction if nobody has bid on it and not incur any charges, other than the listing fee which was £8 in my case. As soon as I had the offer of £3,000 from the PH site I listed the car on eBay for £3,000 to see if I got any interest, hedging my bets in case the PH buyer didn't like the car when he actually saw it.

If you plan doing this then add a note on the adverts that it's listed on more than one website in case you well it and have to withdraw the advert early.

  • SOLD! Just over a week to sell - I only received ONE enquiry though. Fortunately they were serious buyers! Thanks for all your feedback!
  • Cool indeed - would you mind telling us what it went for? £2350 was a bit cheeky but fair play if you got near it!!!
