Urgent help needed over cooker mix up

Options
I am having such a dreadful time over my kitchen and to top it all off I have just typed a lengthy message that has been lost...so in a nutshell.

I ordered a electric double oven. Its fitted and its Gas. Thought I would put up with it and put it down to experience but now discover its an oven and grill and not a double oven. I do not and have never used a grill as I have a George Forman. The kitchen company are saying its too late to do anything and I do not have any evidence to say i asked for an electric...only that I have cooked with electric for 15 years. They basically have made a mistake and wont do anything about it. I KNOW I should have checked before it went it but with everything else going on you dont think they are going to send the wrong appliances...do I have any comeback on this at all?? Im just gutted all the money Ive spent and Im having all these issues

How can they possibly of put a gas oven in by mistake? They would of had to run new gas pipes for a start if you were wired up for an electric one... I must admit though I hate cooking with gas and haven't for many many years... my second oven looks like just a grill too but it actually doubles as grill and second oven this could be the case with yours... not sure what you can do legally , do you not have a written estimate for instance?

A lot of built in gas ovens are an oven and a grill, rather than a double oven.

Do you not have any paperwork at all that says it should be an electric oven? A plan that says it's electric? A quotation? I just can't imagine a kitchen company putting in a built-in gas oven by mistake ... so few people have them.

Like Tanith says, there's a big difference in the fitting required for a gas and an electric oven. A lot of electric double ovens need a 30 amp supply. Are the fitters from the kitchen company? Have you talked to them?

Sorry - can't think of anything - except being persistent with the supplier. If they got it wrong they should put it right.

The invoice I have just says appliances and then the price. I would never have asked for a gas oven..I dont like them. My electric costs were quite high and I though this was because I needed a bigger fuse as it was a double oven. Im just far too trusting, I should have asked for a full breakdown but hindsight is a wonderful thing!! and now Im going to loose out for someone elses error :(

Goes without saying - first check all the paperwork you have to see if you specified elec.

if no joy, speak to the boss of the kitchen co. explain (nicely) there has been a "misunderstanding". if he cannot produce any paperwork either to show that you agreed on a gas oven, then it is your word against theirs. Anyone who values the reputation of their business will try and put this right by removing the oven and installing one that you are happy with.

please do speak to the boss though, as often the fitter etc wil try and fob you off, it just makes more work and hassle for them if you insist.
  • If you bought this with a credit card (not debit card), or paid any part of it that way - or the company you bought it for arranged finance for it, complain to the credit provider because they are liable and they can't force you to sue the retailer first.

If they won't pay for it to be put right, take them to the Financial Ombudsman Service (for free). If the FOS agrees that you were not given what you ordered (or that it is more likely than not that you were) they can force credit provider to pay for it to be corrected - up to a maximum of £100,000 (that is probably a little more than is needed and they don't award punitive damages so don't think you will get a massive windfall).

This won't work if you arranged your own finance such as an overdraft or bank loan to pay for it - but you need only have paid a penny with your credit card for the issuer to be liable for the whole lot - not just the penny.

Ask for it to be removed as it's not what you wanted and will not be paying for it. Was it "FREE" as in free kitchen appliances?

    >Im just far too trusting
That's not what I would call it

No you have posted it on another page of the forum.
