Sky + box replacement tips?

Hi
My sky+ looks like it is on its way out, despite several master system resets, the box is still failing to record the majority of programmes via the planner.
Can anyone the best (i.e. cheapest) way of sourcing a replacement either through Sky or a third party?
Cheers!

Not really interested in a reconditioned box. Any clues as to what the cost of a new box would cost?0 -
Just thought I'd let u know my sky + box was on the blink only monday gone stayed on standby despite rebooting etc anyway spoke to sky who said they would send an engineer out for £65  as the box was now mine as I was with them over 12 mths etc, so I bluffed them and said no way was I paying £65 that I would just cancel (which I was really gonna do) anyway put me through 2 cancellations when lady asked y I was cancelling I said because of £65 charge for engineer and that I was going to virgin, she WAIVED the charge and sent an engineer out who replaced sky+ box for free

might b worth a try :j0 -
Thanks

Unless you're really lucky that's all you'll get.I worked for them & when mine went t*ts-up,all I got was a reco until I called my old manager at Sky...:p
Prices are around £149.00 (see here;)

If you buy a second hand box, can you just plug it into whatever the ordinary Sky box is currently plugged into? Any tips gratefully received.
There seem to be lots on Ebay at the moment - is there a catch to this? Do we need other bits / knowledge?
(we have a Sky box on the cheapest package, no intention of getting HD and can't afford Sky's price for a Sky + box to be installed for £160)
thanks in advance for any help0 -
Its really easy just swop the cables plug it in, Boot it up and press services then 401 select quickly and You'll be greeted with the installer menu, select new installation and the box will do its thing, itll do a callback to sky and you'll have all your premium channels and sky plus functionality enabled on this box

Have you considered swopping the hard drive in the box?0 -
i replaced my sky plus box with a sky hd box. i paid £120 for it on ebay, brand new and sealed. i just plugged it in, swapped the leads etc and inserted viewing card.
then i called sky to pair the viewing card to the box. it works exactly the same as sky plus, i can pause, record etc but i opted not to subscribe to the hd pack (not worth £10 per month imo).
i also get a few free hd channels, and the hard drive is a lot bigger.0 -
why dont you tkae them up on there offer of a free sky hd box if you take out the movies they give you the box and install it for freeReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0

Dont' want the movies (no time to watch a whole movie!) or the HD, thanks...I've seen what HD looks like in tesco's and it gives me the creeps!
All I want to do is quietly record a nice quiet programme or 2 that i can play back later once the kids have finished watching the blasted X Factor and gone to bed.
it would also be nice to be able to go out for the day knowing that "unmissable" episodes of "One Tree Hill" and the like would be recorded when we returned, rather than having to drive home like a maniac..........yes, we used to have a video recorder which worked on the timer, but alas it died.0
