Hi all, I was wandering if anyone can tell me if i buy a contract through mobiles co uk or any of the others which has a discounted monthly tariff ie £5 or £10 off per month, is that discount safe if mobile co uk or whereever went belly up or would you have to start paying the full wack to the phone operator? thanks.

Hi there,
There's 2 schemes - tariffs that have a discount listed against the tariff name (eg "O2 600 £5 Discount" or "Dolphin 30 £10 Discount") are discounted directly on your bill by the network, so there's no claiming for this discount (and no liability on the retailer).
Where you choose "Half Price Line Rental" or "Free Line Rental" for X number of months as your free gift, this is a redemption-based discount that you must claim from the retailer. In the (unlikely) event that Carphone Warehouse, who own Mobiles.co.uk, go bankrupt then yes you have no legal redress.
Hope this helps,“Official Company Representative
