my husband took out a £2000 pound last year to pay off a credit card as he was told that this would pay it off quicker! a year later we were sent a statement telling us that the closing balance for the year was 2,666! to our disbelief they had put on a £739.34 charge for loan protection of which he had told them he did not want, so to date we have paid nearly £1000 pounds,of which our monthly payements are £76.41 of which they are taking £51.88 intrest! my husband phoned llyods tsb and was told that they were sorry and take these charges off, bring our current balance to 2098,53! he was in shock at the cheek of them trying to resell us a loan that should of gone down quite significantly, but no, the next day they were only too quick to send him a new agreement with the starting figure £2098.53, i could not belive that after a year of paying £75.41 a month they had the cheeck to think that we are that stupid to accept something that is clearly a con, we then contacted citizens advice, whom contacted the bank on his behalf, he then spoke to a man who had told him that he could not find this policy number as it was to short! but they can take the monthly fee! and was told they would contact him in 5 days, we received a letter this morning from the insurance customer care, who said they are dealing with his compliant which could take up to eight weeks and if we wanted to cancel this policy to do so, well the point is we never asked for it and its not a question of compliant we want these charges taken off the original balance so for the past year we have been paying extra intrest on something we did not ask for of want we are a low income family and the monthly payments are not good this is really getting my husband down please, can you tell us what we should do now?
thanks pauline.

  • I would write to the bank and state misselling and that the loan should be recalculated based on the payments excl. the PPI. You won't sign any loan agreement unless the figure is £x.xxx.
You are gonna have to do the work on how much you should have been charged, how much you paid and how much remains.
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009
