This is a generalisation and is not correct with all Insurers, there are Insurers who ask for any modifications from the "Manufacturers standard specification including optional extras".
Please be careful when posting sweeping statements as it's possible someone could read your post and be insured with a company that happen to want to know of modifications including optional extras.0 -

I agree, but you would need to specifically ask the question during the new business process. I don't think you could get away with asking "Is the vehicle modified" and expect people to declare xenon headlights.0 -
As I said, there are some Insurers that do specifically ask the question and define it as I described. So it is best that anyone applying for Insurance reads and understands the question the Insurer is asking about modifications / optional extras and answers the question to the best of their knowledge0

Not really. Out of 14 years of driving, and trust me, I go to about 8 different companies each year for quotes, I've never been asked about optional equipment, only modifications. The general publics view of modifications is certainly different to optional extras and the insurance companies know this. They should word their questioning better. :whistle:All the time you're watching your back, you can never look forward...0 -

You may have missed the question you are asked:
eg. This is from the direct line policy definition of what is meant by "modifications" (and does make it clear that optional extras are modifications which you should declare):Modifications – are any changes to your car’s standard specification, including optional extras0 -

Exactly, and this is what people for some reason don't understand whenever these threads crop up. Insurers ask different questions, so generalisations like sharpdeath's are simply not helpful.0 -

What exactly are you referring to here ('code list')?0 -

Admiral and most of their associated companies have a very similar wording.
People making such sweeping statements without either knowing they are correct or at least quantifiying the statement by saying "Most" could cause major problems to an MSE member who takes their advice0 -

The OP may not be with Direct Line though. All the time you're watching your back, you can never look forward...0 -
